English captures All Aged Stakes for Gai

The Gai Waterhouse-trained English has won the last Group One race of the Sydney autumn carnival.

Taking on older horses at weight-for-age, English held off Black Heart Bart to claim the All Aged Stakes at Randwick on Saturday.

The filly came from second last to join in at the 300m and she shot away under Sam Clipperton before surviving a late challenge from the Darren Weir-trained Black Heart Bart.

Kermadec rebounded from his Doncaster Mile failure to take third, leaving the favourites Press Statement and Malaguerra out of the placings.

“What a horse. I had a great run. I got exposed a bit early, but she’s just tough,” Clipperton said.
