Eagle Farm racing tips & best bets – Wednesday, 2 September 2020

Eagle Farm

Eagle Farm is on the four-day turnaround after hosting nine races on Saturday. The track played fairly well on that day when the rail was in the 5.5m position, but it now heads out another 2m for Wednesday’s card. The track is rated a Good 4, with the starter pressing the button for the first at 12:33pm AEST.

Best Bet
Race 4 – Fasano @ $1.85 Sportsbet

Four-year-old gelding Fasano is back at the races on Wednesday for the first time since early May. He’s now had a full campaign in Queensland, which would have given the masterful Robert Heathcoate plenty of time to get the son of Lonhro firing for a big spring. He won his first two starts at the beginning of his last campaign, which suggests to us that he should be fully wound up for this assignment. He ran a nice third in a trial at Doomben three weeks ago to add to his fitness. Drawn in barrier three under Ben Thompson, he should land in a lovely spot off the pace and get the speed to suit his run-on style. At Class 4 level, he should win this against opposition whose best look behind them. He is short in the market, but he looks a good thing.

Next Best
Race 2 – Neptune’s Choice @ $2.25 Sportsbet

Back-to-back winner Neptune’s Choice appears perfectly placed in this 2206m Benchmark 70. In with just 55.5kg after Justin Huxtable’s 2kg claim, he has to carry the same weight as he did in his 3L romping at Ipswich last start. In the small field of six, he will be handy to the speed from barrier three and make it a real staying test like he has done in his last two. Without much pressure in the race, he could potentially lead the small field and be simply too good with race fitness on his side. He is yet to place at Eagle Farm in two starts, but he had excuses the first time around and then was simply outclassed in the Group 3 Rough Habit Plate. This is far from that level, and he should win it comfortably.

Best Value
Race 6 – Golden Missile @ $6.50 Sportsbet

Former NSW galloper Golden Missile joins the Andrew Williamson yard after placing in all four of her runs in country NSW (4:0-2-2). In her last two races, she started a short-priced favourite and wasn’t beaten all that far. She has drawn well in gate seven and should get the run to suit her. With in-form jockey Luke Dittman aboard, she’ll get every chance as she looks to break her maiden here. The 1400m is bound to suit, given she has placed at the trip before and the form out of that race has been solid with five subsequent winners. This consistent mare has been knocking on the door and presents as great each-way value.
