Eagle Farm racing tips & best bets – Saturday, 6 June 2020

Victorem

It’s Queensland’s biggest race day on Saturday with two Group 1 titles, highlighted by the Stradbroke Handicap. Brisbane has turned it on for the Straddie with blue skies predicted and a Good 4 surface for racing. The rail goes out just the 3m from last weekend, so we should see a fair track for the feature day. Race 1 is set to jump at 11:10am AEST, with the Group 1 JJ Atkins at 2:55pm and the Stradbroke Handicap at 3:35pm.

Best Bet
Race 3 – Totally Charmed @ $6

Totally Charmed was one of the best-backed runners on this track a fortnight ago when he was nailed right on the post by Plenty. The Steven O’Dea-trained gelding should get every chance to turn the tables on that horse here with a beautiful draw in barrier seven. Boris Thornton rides again and should park just behind the speed in the 1200m dash. Totally Charmed beat Hi Fiver first-up this prep and that horse won in town last Saturday, which looks good form here. The $6 is a generous price for the I Am Invincible gelding.

Next Best
Race 1 – Seentoomany @ $4.80

We were keen on Michael Costa’s Seentoomany a fortnight ago before he scratched to race at the Gold Coast on the Friday, where she ran second to Advance Warning over this distance. The Sebring mare will be much fitter for that run and maps perfectly for this with what looks to be plenty of speed engaged through the likes of Galtero, Quality Seeker and So Dapper. Jag Guthman-Chester sticks with the mare and will be hoping to turn the tables on Galtero, who she meets 2.5kg better at the weights. Look for her getting back from barrier three and being too strong in the concluding stages.

Best Value
Race 4 – Bold Assassin @ $17

Look away now, punters, if you were on Bold Assassin in the Listed Wayne Wilson Handicap at the Sunshine Coast three weeks ago. He finished a luckless sixth behind Victory Eight in a race that he arguably should have won. Past the post, the gelding was very strong under a hold by Ryan Wiggins. He will go forward from the sticky gate and look to find himself just on the leader’s backs. It’ll be the 5yo’s first crack beyond 1600m and he has failed to place at Eagle Farm in three goes, which is a slight concern. Coming out of a Listed Race back into a Class 6 looks very good form for this. With even luck, he can win at a great price.
