Saturday racing tips for Eagle Farm

Best Bet
Race 7 – Master Jamie @ $6.50

It has been 23 years since a horse carrying 63.5kg won on a Brisbane racetrack, but that is the task ahead of Master Jamie this week. His form for this race is simply superior (hence the weight allocation) with 11 wins from 15 races, including two at this track. Six wins from eight starts over the 1200m journey is more than any of his opposition have had in their career and his secon-up record reads very well (3:2-0-1). He had to carry the same weight last start against the older horses at Rockhampton and was just beaten by talented sprinter Raiden in the final stride. Les Tilley will ride the gelding for the 13th time on Saturday and will go forward from barrier eight. Race favourite Quantico from the John O’Shea stable will be too far back to reel in the champion three-year-old. The $6.50 looks very juicy.

Next Best
Race 1 – Garibaldi @ $2.40

Tony Gollan elected to scratch his talented three-year-old out of Master Jamie’s race to send him around in the 1200m Class 3 Plate instead. In a race with very little speed, barrier one should give Garibaldi a great chance to box seat under Ryan Maloney. The I Am Invincible colt’s last few runs have been in much tougher races, finishing second to Niedorp and The Odyssey before running midfield in the Group 3 Gold Coast Guineas and Group 3 Fred Best Classic. He faces a massive drop in grade to a Class 3 against much weaker opposition and even drops down in weight. He has not won since his debut, which happened to be at this track, but looks a strong win bet here.

Best Value
Race 9 – Pennino @ $13

Bit of a risk tipping Pennino here considering she may still be looking for a way clear from her last start. She was a brilliant winner first up in the Chief De Beers at the Sunshine Coast when backed off the map. The Easy Rocking mare maps beautifully from barrier 10 and should land just off the speed and be well within striking distance for James Orman. She has never missed the placings from three starts at this track and trip, and the $13 looks to be overs given her record. Finding herself in Fillies & Mares grade for the first time in a very long time will be a huge benefit for the talented four-year-old. She can definitely be fighting out the finish in this.
