Eagle Farm racetrack return put on hold

The re-opening of Queensland’s major racetrack has been delayed.

In a joint media statement, Racing Queensland and the Brisbane Racing Club said the decision to delay a return to racing would ensure the track was in the best condition for three Group One meetings in June.

“The track is progressing well but there is one section that will benefit from more time after an extremely testing summer,” BRC executive officer David Whimpey said.

“We galloped horses again on Wednesday and we were very pleased with the progress of the track since Buffering galloped in early March.

“The surface has nearly reached full maturity across most of the course proper.

“But there is one area from about the 300 metres to the end of the straight, closer to the rail, that is taking longer to bounce back from the summer.”

Mr Whimpey said the club would hold barrier trials at Eagle Farm late next month with the first meeting to be Queensland Oaks day on June 4.
