Eagle Farm Mile betting tips – Saturday, 13 June 2020

Niccanova racing news
Niccanova will be out to make up for his unlucky Stradbroke Handicap defeat in the Eagle Farm Mile.

The Group 3 Eagle Farm Mile (1600m) is one of the feature races on Saturday’s program in Brisbane. A quality field of 15 has been assembled, with just the one runner backing up from last weekend’s Group 1 Stradbroke Handicap in race favourite Niccanova. There does not appear to be a great deal of speed engaged, with Best Of Days and Get Stuck In the likely go-forward runners. The race sits eighth in the running order and is scheduled to jump at 4pm AEST.

Best Bet
Military Zone @ $5

Military Zone didn’t quite make it into the Stradbroke Handicap field, so Peter and Paul Snowden have elected to target this race instead with their Epaulette gelding. Drawn ideally in barrier five, senior rider Ryan Maloney will be able to settle in a beautiful spot just off the speed. The 4yo was a heavily backed favourite nearly a month ago in his last run in the Listed Scone Cup, where he came from a long way back to finish fifth. Before that he finished fifth at Randwick behind Ranier, which ran well in the Stradbroke. Military Zone is a one-time winner at Eagle Farm and the 400m straight will suit. He looks a great bet at around the $5 with most online bookmakers.

Next Best
Niccanova @ $3.10

The race favourite certainly lost no admirers last start when beaten under half a length by Tyzone and Madam Rouge to run third in the Stradbroke Handicap. James Orman had to weave a passage through the field and finished off very strongly, giving every indication that the mile will be no trouble this time in. Niccanova does rise 3kg for this assignment, but that should not be an issue. The Nicconi gelding is a two-time winner at Eagle Farm (7:2-1-2) and a three-time winner at the 1600m (6:3-0-1). He is drawn somewhat awkwardly in barrier 12 and so will have to go back again, which could be difficult if it is not a genuinely run 1600m. Niccanova is a deserving favourite and will be right in the finish.

Best Value
Get Stuck In @ $14

Leading Queensland trainer Tony Gollan saddles up two promising runners here in Silvera and Get Stuck In. We are leaning slightly towards the latter, which should get it all his own way in front under Blake Spriggs. The gelding was a well-fancied runner in the Listed Wayne Wilson Handicap at the Sunshine Coast a month ago, where he led the field until the 200m marker only to finish three lengths back in 12th. The Lucas Cranach gelding has superior Eagle Farm form, with three wins and three seconds coming from nine starts at the course, so he will be suited by getting back onto his home track. He maps to do very little work from barrier nine and we would not be surprised to see him lead all the way at a juicy each-way quote.
