Wednesday racing tips for Eagle Farm

Best Bet
Race 4 – Cloak @ $1.65

It is very hard to ignore Cloak’s form this prep considering he has won all four starts since relocating from New South Wales. The five-year-old gelding has been dominant in those four wins since joining the in-form Vandyke stable and finds himself in another very suitable race here. Over 1800m and drawn the inside alley, Ryan Maloney will lead and should be too hard to catch given the rail position. Former Victorian horse Bianco Nuovo will also push forward, which could see Maloney opt to take a sit on Cloak and allow him to bide his time, relax and go on with the job. He comes up short, but he should be far too good.

Next Best
Race 8 – Smooth Move @ $5.50

Chris Munce and Justin Huxtable combine in the last with last-start runner up Smooth Move. He settled a fair way back at this track three weeks ago and was edged out in the smallest of margins by Ziemba. He rises 3kg in weight here but also steps out in trip to 1400m, which will suit him down to the ground (D: 5:2-1-0). Drawn in barrier eight, Huxtable will likely settle around three pairs back on the outside and chime in when it counts. Smooth Move’s Saturday form should stand up well in this Class 2 event. He has been racing well in much tougher benchmark races, so we expect him to go very close here at a very backable price.

Best Value
Race 5 – Kipchoge @ $9.50

We’ve got our fingers crossed in the hope that a runner above Kipchoge gets scratched from the race to give the gelding a start, as he is currently the first emergency. Should he gain a start, he looks to be a great each-way play. He was put away after just the one start back in April, and now he returns with winkers on and Robbie Fradd in the saddle. The Rich Enuff gelding has shown natural speed, so Fradd may opt to push him forward from barrier six. He does come up against some tough opposition including former New South Wales galloper I Am Swerving, who placed at Group level in the Pago Pago in the autumn and also drops 3kg on his last run. Nonetheless, Kipchoge can lob here at a great price.
