Dunn brings up Derby day double on Tofane

Tofane wins at Flemington.
Tofane has capped a good day at the office for jockey Dwayne Dunn with her Furphy Sprint win.

After a Group One win on quality colt Exceedance in the Coolmore Stud Stakes, jockey Dwayne Dunn has capped a successful Victoria Derby day with a victory on Tofane.

Dunn steered the Mike Moroney-trained Tofane to a 1-1/4-length success in Saturday’s Group Three Furphy Sprint (1100m) for mares at Flemington, bringing up a winning double on the program for the jockey.

Dunn was one of two riders to snare winning doubles on the day with champion jockey Damien Oliver winning the Group One Victoria Derby on Warning and the Group Two Wakeful Stakes on Miami Bound.

Tofane ($6) defeated Pippie with Miss Iano another three quarters of a length away third.

Dunn’s day also included a third placing on Soul Patch in the Victoria Derby.

“It’s been an excellent day,” Dunn said.

“I thought I had some really good chances coming into today and it’s hard to get too bullish on a Group One day because big races are not easy to win.

“But I really liked Exceedance who came out on top in the Coolmore Stud Stakes and Soul Patch ran terrific in the Derby.

“I thought Tofane was a great chance in the last race and she has got the job done.”

It was a second straight Group Three win for four-year-old Tofane who took her overall record to four wins from nine starts.
