Dulverton on path to Qld winter carnival

Dulverton contested the VRC Oaks in the spring and could get another chance at a fillies’ Classic in Queensland.

The Robert Smerdon-trained Dulverton is down to make her return at Caulfield on Saturday in the JRA Handicap (1440m).

Dulverton, owned by Qatar Bloodstock, finished fifth to Jameka in the VRC Oaks at Flemington at her fifth start before a spell.

Smerdon said Dulverton was being aimed towards Brisbane during the winter carnival.

“She trialled really well at Cranbourne last week so she seems to have come back and she’s better this time around than last time,” Smerdon said.

Smerdon said the 1440m was a good starting point.

“I think the stablemate Indarra is probably fitter than her because she has had a bit of racing this preparation,” Smerdon said.

“Dulverton is a filly that’s going to come into her own as the races get a bit longer.”

Smerdon has also accepted with lightly raced Zafiki, who won on debut last spring at Cranbourne before finishing at the tail of the field in the Sandown Guineas.

Zafiki is an emergency.
