Doubt I’m Dreaming awakens in Valley Pearl

Doubt I'm Dreaming
It was a dream debut for Doubt I’m Dreaming when scoring the Valley Pearl at Moonee Valley on Friday night

THERE was plenty of early market support for Doubt I’m Dreaming and it was money was placed as the debutante scored an impressive win in the Valley Pearl on Friday night.

The John McArdle-trained two-year-old was making it debut at Moonee Valley following a handy trial effort, but it faced a tough field of juveniles which included Coruscate and Showtime.

The son of Not A Single Doubt showed no fears, however, as it powered around the home turn before quickly putting a couple of lengths on the field to score a dream debut win.

It was backed in from $14 to $9 earlier in the betting, but Ladbrokes.com.au offered $14 for the smart colt which winning jockey Jamie Mott believes could be the best horse he’s ever ridden.

“Obviously I haven’t ridden any group one winners yet, but I’ve had a lot to do with group horses through track work,” Mott said.

“He’s definitely the best horse I’ve ridden since I’ve been riding. He put them away really easy and I think he could go to the top level.”

Doubt I’m Dreaming gave Mott a few nervous moments heading around to the barriers, but it ultimately showed a great deal of professionalism during the race.

“Just when he came on the track, I trotted him on the straight, turned him around and he sort of half went to rear,” Mott described.

“I thought he was going to buck me off and then he hit the rail. I’m glad he ended up coming around here nice and you can see what he did in the end.

“How good a horse he’s going to be.”

Winning trainer John McArdle and the connections paid $210,000 for the talented colt after it went to the Melbourne Premier Sale as a top line contender, but a broken jaw lowered the price considerably.

“I bought him up on the Gold Coast in June – he was in the Melbourne Premier Sale, but he broke his jaw so they had to withdraw him,” McArdle said.

McArdle stated that numerous bloodstock agents have contacted him since its impressive trial performance.

“There’s been a couple of agents ring us after the trial and offer us a bit of money,” McArdle said.

“He’s a well-bred colt, he’s out of a half to Sir John Hawkwood.

“He’s bred to get over a bit more ground, so I think it’s going to take a bit of money to buy him.”
