A monster 10-race card has been assembled for Doomben on Saturday. The track is rated a soft 5, with rain around Brisbane on Thursday and Friday, while the rail in the +4m position for the entire circumference of the course. Race 1 will jump at 11:23am.

Not often we like to tip two-year-olds, but Alert And Ready is one with exposed form. On debut, she was well tried at Toowoomba when she threw the jockey, before running very well at Doomben over the 1050m last start when second to True Moonlight. Andrew Mallyon stays on here and from barrier eight we think he can get the filly into a nice spot behind the speed and allow her to be presented with every possible chance. Up to 1110m looks ideal for her to get the maiden out of the way.

It’ll be a long wait until the last race, but it should be worth it, with Trent & Toby Edmonds’ mare, Thine Is the Power. The ex-Victorian has had just three starts in Queensland, where she has won twice and placed a narrow second to Soxagon. Her two trials have been solid leading up to this. While she hasn’t won first up, she has two placings from three attempts, but her trials should see her fit enough and ready to go. Andrew Mallyon is aboard her here too so hopefully he is on the job. We don’t imagine she will be too far away from barrier five in the run and hopefully be the first one past the post.

In what is the toughest race of the day, we think the big boy from Rockhampton looks a winning chance, back to 1050m. Elly Smith is down for just the one ride, and the 3kg claim will be extremely beneficial her given he has drawn the carpark. Two starts back, he smashed the track record at Rocky over this distance, so he should be very hard to beat in this. From the wide alley, the pair will come across and look to settle in the first few. His tactical gate speed will give him every chance to get over under light riding which is a big plus. Last start in the Weetwood he was brilliant we thought when fifth, and the form has been good out of that race with Jadentom winning again a fortnight ago. He can give this a shake.
