Doomben Racecourse

Nine races will be run and won at Doomben on Wednesday for Queensland’s midweek metro racing. They should be racing on a good surface with blue skies around Brisbane on Tuesday and no rain predicted. The rail goes out 8.5m for the entire circumference of the track, which could potentially set up a leader’s bias as we have seen at Doomben in the past. Race 1 will jump at 11:26am AEST, while the last is scheduled for 4:06pm.

Best BetRace 1 – The Actuary @ $2.10 Bet365

We won’t have to wait long for a winner when The Actuary lines up in Race 1 for Tony Gollan and Baylee Nothdurft in a QTIS 2YO Maiden Plate over 1350m. The Sebring filly maps to get a dream run behind Batangas Entry and should be too strong late over the 1350m. She is coming out of a hot race against the older horses a fortnight ago at the Sunshine Coast, where she ran fourth behind the promising Wolf Moon. That race was quicker than the Class 3 on the card, which was won by subsequent Saturday Brisbane winner Plenty. In what looks a race in two chances, The Actuary looks to have the slightly better form going into this and should go on to justify the short quote.

Next BestRace 3 – Central America @ $2.90

We are sticking with the form out of the Sunshine Coast maiden race mentioned above and siding with Central America, which finished third on that occasion. The 3yo filly has placed in three starts from five attempts and looks to finally break through for her maiden victory here. Justin Huxtable claims 2kg, which will see the horse race with just 54.5kg in the 1350m 3YO Maiden. The speed map presents some concern, especially if Doomben shows a bias towards those on speed, as Central America likes to get back and run on. Second up from a break, Steve O’Dea should have her ready to go for this assignment at what looks to be a suitable distance. Hopefully, The Actuary can frank the form in the first to build our confidence here. If the track is playing fairly in the first two races, Central America looks a great chance to get her first win.

Best ValueRace 9 – Flying Eddie @ $18 Sportsbet

Flying Eddie did enough to hold on at his last outing and we see no reason why he can’t replicate that form here. While barrier 19 is a concern, he should use his early speed to cross the field and lead them up over the 1200m trip. The Jet Spur gelding gets a 2kg weight relief from his last win at this track and distance. Kevin Kemp should have this horse very fit and ready to go after giving him a three-week freshen up. The $18 appeals at an each-way price to send punters out on a high in the last.
