Doomben horse betting racing preview
Nine races will be run and won at Doomben on Saturday, on what will be their third meeting in seven days. The track is currently rated a Good 4, with the rail out just half a metre for the entire circumference. Race 1 will jump at 11:53am local time.
Race 2 #1 Isotope
Tony Gollan’s smart filly resumes from a spell in what looks a winnable QTIS three-year-old handicap. She won her first two starts very impressively before going down to Rothfire in the Champagne Stakes and then not handling the 1400m in the JJ Atkins. Gollan has taken his time with her with two soft trials and now looks ready to go first-up over a much more suitable 1050m trip. She does have to carry the top weight and jump from the outside alley, but she is a very classy specimen and should find the front no worries at all. If she returns to form, this’ll be a sit and steer job for Nothdurft.

Race 7 #5 Desert Lord
David Vandyke and Steph Thornton combine with Desert Lord in the seventh, and they should be in the winner’s photo after the race. He’s had five weeks between runs where he was beaten by a very good one in The Harrovian at Eagle Farm. That form has been franked since, and the freshen up and drop to 1350m will suit as will the fact that this is a much easier race. He’ll settle in the second half of the field we would imagine and be too smart for these. He looks group class.

Race 8 #11 Ballistic Boy
Ballistic Boy lines up here first-up since his dominant win in the Rough Habit Plate over the Winter Carnival. Due to COVID-19, there was no Queensland Derby this year, but if there was he would’ve been odds on and very hard to beat. While there’s a lot of ifs; if he had won the Derby and had that Group 1 to his name at his latest start; he’d be half the price he is in this. His first-up record is very handy, and he has trialled nicely in preparation for this. While he is a maiden at Doomben, he does have three placings at the track. There is plenty of speed in this race, so as long as Matt McGillivray can find cover from barrier 10, this is the horse that’ll be chiming in very late and making a strong winning bid. Keep and eye on him this prep as he stretches out to 2000m.
