Race 2 – Cellarmaid @ $3.20 Sportsbet

Kelly Schweida’s 3yo filly has been knocking on the door at her past two runs, finishing second behind Wapiti and the very exciting Vanna Girl in the Group 2 The Roses last start. Both runs were over 1800m where she got back and motored home coming from near last to challenge the leader. We have a huge love affair for Vanna Girl, so to finish only just over a length behind her gives us huge confidence about Cellarmaid. She finds herself in a massive drop in grade back to a 3yo plate, which has to be beneficial for her. Jimmy Orman will settle towards the rear from barrier 10 and be finishing strongly over the top of them in what looks to be a race with a stack of speed. In any normal year, Cellarmaid would’ve found herself on the second or third line of betting in the Queensland Oaks at Group 1 level, so we are happy to take the $3.20 for her in this.

Race 7 – Inquiry @ $3.80 Sportsbet

You won’t find a more consistent galloper in Queensland at the minute. So far this campaign, Inquiry has found himself in the winner’s stall in five of his seven runs, finishing second and third in the other two. He finds himself in his second Listed race since finishing fourth on debut in the Maribyrnong Plate for 2yo horses down the Flemington straight. Since then, he has had a further 21 starts, winning nine of those. Ryan Wiggins hops on the 5yo by Exceed And Excel for the third time and will be hoping to maintain his 100% strike rate on the horse. He should get all the favours in the run from gate four, going forward and leading from barrier to box. The 54kg will be the lightest weight he has ever had to carry, which will be a massive advantage for the go-forward galloper. He should be very hard to beat here in what will be his toughest test to date.

Best Value
Race 4 – Better Reflection @ $13 Sportsbet

John Wigginton saddles up Better Reflection in a 1350m 3YO Handicap on Saturday after the filly ran seventh first up in the Listed Mick Dittman Plate behind Aquitaine on Stradbroke day. On that occasion she looked to be run off her legs early before picking up late and finishing well through the line. It’ll be her first time up to 1350m, but she looks ready for the rise in trip second up. Unbeaten at Doomben from two starts, she gets back to her favourite track and can be finishing strongly late. Jumping from barrier 13 of 13 is a slight concern, but there looks to be heaps of speed engaged, so Ryan Wiggins might nearly go back to last, help the filly relax and use her blistering turn of foot to ensure she runs the trip. Dropping back in class, she can win this at double-figure odds if she finds her best form.
