Doomben 10,000 betting guide, form and free tips, Saturday May 13

Doomben 10,000

THE $700,000 Doomben 10,000 kicks off the Brisbane winter carnival in fine style this Saturday where a quality field has assembled.

The quality is evident with the likes of Russian Revolution, Music Magnate and Redzel – all recent winners and all have been heavily backed to take out the first group one of the carnival.

That’s not the only quality race on the card as the Group 2 Moet Champagne Classic and the Group 3 Chairman’s Handicap will keep punters entertained throughout the day.

Punters betting with Ladbrokes.com.au will get enhanced odds on every runner in the Doomben 10,000 with an incredible max bet of $100.

Race 1 – Swire Shipping Plate (1110m)

Tumbler was sent out way too short in the betting for the Victory Stakes last start against the likes of Music Magnate, but this is more its level. The Barry Lockwood-trained five-year-old has won six of its eight starts, but it hasn’t beaten much in the process. This looks an ideal race for it and the inside draw should be a good benefit. $3.30 available with bookmakers after opening at $3.50.

Invincible Express is on the second line of betting at $4.20 follow a string of wins. The David Vandyke-trained mare has rattled off five consecutive wins and it looks a four-year-old on the rise. This will be a much harder task than what it has faced to date, but it looks to have enough ability at this stage.

Better Land promised plenty as a juvenile, but that hasn’t quite eventuated to much. The Toby Edmonds-trained horse finished second at its last start before spelling and it typically runs good races in this state. The in-form Jeff Lloyd takes the ride and punters are getting value at $9.

Race 1 tip: Tumbler to win ($3.30) at Sportsbet.com.au

Race 2 – Ambassador Travel Handicap (1350m)

Privlaka didn’t have much luck at Eagle Farm last start and it could get its chance at redemption. The Robert Heathcote-trained gelding is a three-time winner on this track, but it will need luck from the wide barrier draw. It has attracted support at $5 in the betting and that should be respected.

Maternal is from the powerful Godolphin operation and it will find this grade much easier after running in the Hawkesbury Crown last start. The four-year-old has won three from four starts at this distance and it has solid wet track form. Drawing barrier 16 means it will require its fair share of luck, but it has the class to overcome that.

Payroll is currently at double figures and it could give punters a good sight. The Richard Laming-trained four-year-old finished third in the Magic Millions Trophy at its last start and it has won two from four starts when fresh up. It has proven to be an expensive runner for punters in the past, but $11 could be worth the risk.

Race 2 tip: Payroll to win ($11) at Ladbrokes.com.au

Race 3 – Singapore Turf Club Members’ Handicap (1600m)

Shaune Ritchie is having a good run in Australia and Sultan Of Swing looks to have plenty of ability. The Kiwi four-year-old finished third behind former Aussie Jiayuguan last start at Avondale and its two wins prior are good enough for this grade. It might go underrated at odds of $10.

Jumbo Prince is an 11-time winner which has gathered support in the market. The Michael Nolan-trained five-year-old has had its fair share of racing and this will be its 41st start. It has a good record on this track and any moisture in the track will be appreciated. $4.20 is about as short as we would consider taking.

Sheiswhatsheis is more than capable of springing the upset and it has won multiple times at Doomben. The Tony Gollan-trained mare has won three from 13 on this track and it’s coming off a solid finish behind Single Gaze. If it can get to the front it will be hard to beat, but crossing from barrier 11 is the challenge.

Race 3 tip: Sultan Of Swing to win ($10) at Bet365.com

Race 4 – Moet Champagne Classic (1200m)

Ours To Keep made its campaign debut last start and although it didn’t fire a shot, it will get better with more racing under its belt. The Chris Munce-trained colt showed plenty of ability in Queensland last preparation and it’s unbeaten in two starts on this track. $5.50 is a value price and it should give punters a great sight in a tough field.

Snitzkraft looked to have plenty of ability last campaign, but it was entitled to show more last start. It finished third behind Saint Patricks Day as the $2 favourite, but its condition gave out and punters will likely give it another chance. It runs well on this track and it has too much ability to ignore at $3.30.

Getting momentum in the betting is She’s Our Star. The Gollan-trained filly won on debut on this track before running just under five lengths behind Houtzen. It was finishing off strongly on that occasion and the form behind Houtzen is good form. It is drawn to get all favours and it will likely be well-backed on the day at $7.

Race 4 tip: Snitzkraft to win ($3.60) at Bet365.com

Race 5 – Suez Queensland Day Stakes (1350m)

Good Standing is a quality colt which needs more time and distance, but it should find this level of racing up its alley. The James Cummings-trained three-year-old finished seventh in the Hawkesbury Guineas last start, but its win at Caulfield last preparation oozes class and it should find itself in the thick of the action at $5.

Morton’s Fork is the current $4.40 favourite having run 11th in the Australian Guineas at its last start. The Beadman-trained colt has been freshened up since that run and the Sandown Guineas winner has taken on much harder fields than this. It has won twice at this distance and we’re expecting its current odds of $4.40 to shorten throughout the week.

Hall Of Fame comes over from New Zealand with top form and the Kiwis usually clean up during this carnival. The Te Akau-raced colt won the Levin Classic three back before finishing fifth in the Waikato Guineas and the Breeders’ Stakes. That form is strong and if it can jump the barriers and sit handy to the pace, it will be tough to beat at $5.

Race 5 tip: Hall Of Fame to win ($5) at WilliamHill.com.au

Race 6 – AQWA Constructions Chairman’s Handicap (2000m)

Stampede was a brilliant last start winner in the Wagga Cup and it shouldn’t find this much harder. The Waterhouse/Bott-trained four-year-old led from the front with Rachel King in the saddle, who has been replaced with senior rider Kerrin McEvoy. The well-bred son of High Chaparral has form around some nice types and it will likely try lead the way at odds of $3.90.

Chocante is a Kiwi runner which finished off well in the Easter Stakes at Ellerslie last start. The four-year-old is a four-time winner from 12 starts and it handles the rain-affected ground with ease. All four wins have come on a slow surface and conditions look ideal for this. This isn’t the strongest field and the Stephen Marsh-trained runner could take advantage at $5.

Morendi has won its last two and it has shown a good turn-of-foot. The four-year-old won on this track two starts back by three lengths and it followed that up with another win at Eagle Farm last start. It flew home after settling well back and it could sneak into the minor money at odds of $11.

Race 6 tip: Chocante to win ($5) at Ladbrokes.com.au

Race 7 – James Boag’s Premium Doomben 10000 (1200m)

[rmOC_events_list event_ids=1133319_07]

Music Magnate established its class when winning at Eagle Farm last start and it has group one-winning experience. The Baker-trained gelding won its only start on this track and four of its eight career wins have come at this distance. It’s still an underrated five-year-old which has won more than $1.1 million in career earnings and that must be respected here. $6.50 on offer from bookmakers is a great price for a classy runner.

All the attention has been placed on Russian Revolution and rightfully so. The Snowden-trained colt won the Group 1 Galaxy only two starts back before running sixth in the T.J. Smith. It would prefer the current heavy track condition to improve slightly, but the three-year-old son of Snitzel has a promising stallion career ahead of it and adding the Doomben 10000 would look nice on the page. It opened at $3 and has drifted to $3.20, but we’re expecting some late money.

Redzel is another quality runner from the Snowden stables and it rarely runs a bad race. The four-year-old won the Hall Mark Stakes last time out and it went down fighting behind Russian Revolution in The Galaxy. That form is great for this and it has the ability to handle both dry and wet track conditions. Drawing an inside barrier should suit and there is good value with the $7.

Race 7 tip: Music Magnate to win ($7) at Ladbrokes.com.au

Race 8 – Mitty’s Rough Habit Plate (2000m)

Mongolian Wolf is a classy former Kiwi, but it’s drifting significantly in the market. The last start Packer Plate winner opened at $3.80 and has drifted to $3.80, but despite its travel concerns, there is no reason for the betting drift. It has two wins on a heavy track and the form in behind Gingernuts this season has been superior. It looks a good chance.

Money has come for fellow Kiwi runner Shocking Luck which only narrowly suffered defeat at Ipswich last start. The Autridge/Richards-trained three-year-old finished second in the Waikato Guineas which will be good form for this and the rise up to this distance is ideal. Opie Bosson rides and it should be running on stylishly come to the end of the 2000m.

Order Again has been specked at $6 after opening at $6.50. The Brian Smith-trained gelding won by 7.5 lengths last start at Eagle Farm and punters are respecting that effort. It’s bred to handle this distance with ease and despite drawing barrier 16, it shouldn’t go overlooked.

Race 8 tip: Shocking Luck to place ($2.50) at CrownBet.com.au
