Doomben 10,000 and a retiring jockey dominate racing Twitter chat
A HUGE weekend of racing looms and Twitter has had its say on the biggest issues of the week.
Queensland’s Doomben 10,000 headlines this weekend’s racing action, but social media also had its say on the sudden and unexpected retirement of apprentice gun Dylan Dunn, who declared he will walk away from the sport effective immediately.
Let’s take a look at what Twitter had to say.
Doomben 10,000 headlines a big weekend of Brisbane racing
The Group One Doomben 10,000 is the showpiece event of this weekend’s racing, and the industry is excited for what could be in store.
One racing enthusiast believes changes to the distance of the 10,000 will help a number of gun runners going into Saturday.
A 1200m Doomben 10000 is a major bonus for the likes of Fell Swoop, Redzel and Counterattack. Probably Russian Revolution and Derryn also.

Although it assists a number of runners in the 2017 field, not everyone is impressed.
Get the Doomben 10 000 back to 1350m

The field looks strong – as it should be for a group one race – but $3 favourite at Sportsbet.com.au Russian Revolution looks to be the one to beat.
Doomben 10,000 favourite Russian Revolution pleased jockey @KPMcEvoy with his gallop on the inside grass at Randwick this morning.

Does Russian Revolution have the race at its mercy? Many believe that is the case.
One Twitter user struggled to make his mind up about just how entertaining Saturday’s feature will be.
Super keen on one already at Doomben this sat. Good noms for the 10000 meeting @BrisRacingClub @racing_qld

Then less than 24 hours later.

We do not think the race is as cut and dry as he is saying, but Russian Revolution looks to be the horse to beat.
Universal love for retiring apprentice Dylan Dunn
It was one of the sadder stories of the week, but Twitter and the racing community collectively praised the former Victorian Apprentice of the Year.
@HorseRacingAus1 That is one big shock great young rider yep win me a bit too all the very best #DylanDunn
— Michael sayer (@Micksplit) May 9, 2017
The 22-year-old was forced to retire prematurely from riding after a spate of illnesses impacted his ability to stay at an adequate riding weight.
One Twitter user said we are being robbed of one of the stars of the future.
Shame the battle of weight beat Dylan Dunn, one of the great young gun jockeys across Australia #HorseRacing

We are wishing Dylan all the best in the future, and hope the son of a gun is not completely lost to the industry.
