Dogmatic scores easy victory at Caulfield

Dogamtic wins at Caulfield.
Dogmatic has kept an unbeaten record for new trainer Richard Laming after winning at Caulfield.

Recent Richard Laming acquisition Dogmatic has maintain his perfect strike-rate for the stable with an easy win at Caulfield.

A former Godolphin galloper, Dogmatic took out Saturday’s Ladbrokes Back Yourself Handicap to be unbeaten in two starts for Laming.

Providing Dwayne Dunn an early race-to-race double, Dogmatic ($9) raced to a 2-1/4 length win from Tysonic ($7) with Mangione ($10) 1-1/4 lengths away third.

Dogmatic won first-up for Laming at Ballarat over 1600m on May 22 before rising in trip on Saturday in a heat of the Mahogany Challenge.

“I was quietly confident at Ballarat but out to the 2000 metres it was unknown as well as being up in grade,” Laming said.

“He’s shown today that he gets the 2000 no problems and gives the indication he’ll get further, so the owners are going to have a lot of fun with him.”

Laming had thoughts of taking Dogmatic to Darwin for the carnival but will instead keep the gelding in Melbourne over the winter months.

“Originally I thought we’d take him to Darwin for the Derby, but he trialled up really well on wet tracks,” Laming said.

“The prize money here is so great on a Saturday and he likes the sting out of the tracks, so while he’s three he can attack the three-year-old races in the weeks to come.”
