Dettori to miss at least Day 1 of Ascot

Frankie Dettori will miss the first day of Royal Ascot because of an arm injury with his participation for the rest of the week far from certain.

The popular jockey sustained the injury in a paddock fall at Yarmouth last Tuesday but had been fit enough to ride Shutter Speed in the French Oaks on Sunday.

Dettori’s agent Ray Cochrane reports the rider to still be suffering with the problem, meaning he will sit out the first day of the Royal meeting at least.

“He said his arm is not good this morning so he won’t be riding today and we’ll have to see about the rest of the week,” Cochrane said.

“It’s a soft tissue injury and they can be very painful. He’s been having treatment on it since last Tuesday.”

Dettori had four rides booked on the opening day including favourite Lady Aurelia in the King’s Stand Stakes.
