Decision Time still has a bit to give
There is a queue of people keen to take Decision Time when he retires but his trainer is not ready to let go of him just yet.
Clarry Conners believes the eight-year-old still has something to give on the track and thinks he has found the perfect race as long as the weather plays its part.
Decision Time will line up in Saturday’s Winter Dash at Randwick with the track in the soft range but fine weather predicted.
Second in the 2010 Golden Slipper won by Crystal Lily, Decision Time has had a few injury problems over the years but as a 44-start veteran he is happy and sound.
“When he was a younger horse he didn’t mind wet tracks,” Conners said.
“He won his second start on a soft track and even though the track was OK when he won the Black Opal, it was raining on the day.
“But now he just doesn’t seem to go on them so I’m hoping Randwick can dry out a bit.
“This is a really nice race for him if he can get a good track.
“He is such a lovely horse and loves stable life. A lot of people want him but I would miss him.”
Decision Time is one of 12 sprinters in the 1200m-race with former Hong Kong horse Smart Volatility heading the weights with 61kg.
A Group One placegetter in Hong Kong and now at Randwick with John Sargent, Smart Volatility will get a three-kilogram weight relief from his 61kg with Andrew Adkins’ claim.
Decision Time gets into the race with 53.5 after Taylor Marshall’s two kilogram allowance.
The Gerald Ryan-trained consistent performer Inz’n’out is the early $2.80 favourite to break through for an overdue win after being placed at his past eight starts.
“I can’t fault him. I’d just like to see him win a race,” Ryan said.
