Darren Weir watch at Warrnambool Racing Carnival, Day One
IF there has ever been a man that has been synonymous alongside success at Warrnambool, it is champion trainer Darren Weir.
The great man got off to a sensational start on day one of the Warrnambool Racing Carnival on his birthday, getting on the board early after Ancient King hammered its rivals in the second race on the card at the $1.90 quote at WilliamHill.com.au.
It didn’t take him long did it,; @DKWeirRacing strikes & strikes hard as Ancient King wins the second maiden hurdle. https://t.co/sOyVDNb3Jd pic.twitter.com/jmaVYSnPGQ

Weir had a longer than expected return to the winner’s circle than he has experienced in recent years in the following races.
One of the trainer’s better chances of the day in the form of Miss Benedetta ($2.80 at WilliamHill.com.au) gave him the second winner on the card in the seventh race.

From then on in though, it was the Darren Weir show.
After not placing in the eighth race on the card, Weir proceeded to take out the final two races, giving him four winners for the entire day.
Weir just taking the piss now. #TheBool

Tick Tick Bloom ($11 at Sportsbet.com.au) was one of the least fancied runners in the City of Warranmbool Handicap, but under a clever ride from Damian Lane the mare was able to prevail and hand Weir his third win of the day.

The win was also Weir’s 50th win at the Bool, but the great one was not done just yet.
To round out the day, DK took out the final race on the card after Royal Ace saluted at the $11.60 price at Sportsbet.com.au.
Unfortunately one punter found out the hard way that taking the early odds on a fixed runner is not your best option.
Great day, but still feel a bit sick.
Saved on Royal Ace in the last but took $6 this morning. Started $18 Fixed on the TAB.— Wagering Fiend (@WageringFiend) May 2, 2017
As Rick McIntosh would say, “Back Weir, Drink Beer” and we suspect there were plenty of cold ones consumed on course after today’s dominant display, which took Darren Weir’s total race wins at the Warrnambool Carnival beyond the half century.
What a champion – and he still has two days to go.
We just hope the carnival organisers have enough beer to cater for all the Weir punters on course for the remaining two days.
