Darren Beadman and Godolphin are searching for group one glory with Impending in Saturday’s Kingsford-Smith Cup at Eagle Farm

IMPENDING will look to give departing Godolphin trainer Darren Beadman some group one success in Saturday’s Group 1 Kingsford-Smith Cup (BTC Cup) at Eagle Farm.

The three-year-old is coming off a disappointing autumn carnival where it was unable to win in three starts, but the Stan Fox Stakes winner does have class and punters are getting a great price of $21 at Sportsbet this Saturday.

Beadman admitted it will have to be at its best to beat the likes of Black Heart Bart and Derryn, but it’s believes Impending’s best would take it close.

“There are half a dozen chances in the race and it is a good mix of those proven at this level and the up-and-comers. He is going to have to be at his very best,” Beadman said.

“We have given him two trials since the Sydney autumn and he had a bit more of a sound out in the second one with this race in mind.

“He wasn’t that far off Astern when he was at his best and that would put him right in this race.”

Impending finished third behind Astern in both the Run to the Rose and the Golden Rose before taking out the Stan Fox Stakes. It hasn’t been able to win since, but the easing track conditions could help its cause.

Beadman will also line up Raiment in the Glenlogan Park Stakes, but he hasn’t confirmed whether the form runner will line up at Eagle Farm.

“We are tossing up where to run from the wide gate because there is a race for her next week as well,” Beadman said.

Beadman is confident with Tessara in the Fred Best Classic after a storming run for third in the Gold Coast Guineas last start.

“His run was excellent at the Gold Coast and he’s continued to go ahead in leaps and bounds,” Beadman said.

“Since he’s been gelded he’s really turned into a racehorse.

“He’s right on song.”

Godolphin will also have a strong presence at Randwick on Saturday, in particular with Allergic which is the current $3.50 favourite at CrownBet to take out the feature McKell Cup.

The five-year-old has been knocking on the door of a breakthrough win and Beadman believes it could come in quick time.

“He’s getting pretty close to breaking through,” Beadman said.

“Admittedly at the weight scale, he’s got his fair share of weight but in saying that the horses who are in at 53kg are well out of the weight scale so there are probably only three or four horses in the weight scale anyway.

“He’s very well.”
