Race 1 – Campolina Stud Handicap (1200m)

The dominating $2.40 favourite is So You Too, which drops right back in grade after running third in the Euclase Stakes last start. The Macdonald/Gluyas-trained gelding flashed home late behind Sweet Sherry and that form looks testing for this. It has won once from seven starts on this track and dropping to 55.5kg will only help its chances in this. Drawing barrier 13 has hurt its chances, but punters have backed it considerably from $2.70 and there is no other runner at single figure odds. It looms as an early bet for many punters.

Stablemate Correct Call is the next best in the market at $10 and it looks a solid each way chance. The three-time winner hasn’t been far away in some nice fields of late and it handles all track conditions. The four-year-old is twice a winner at this distance and it’s dropping in weight to 54.5kg after carrying 60kg when running third last start. It might not be as fancied as its stablemate, but the odds are appealing.

Race 1 tip: So You Too to win ($2.40) at Sportsbet.com.au

Race 2 – National Stakes (1200m)

Pure Scot looked the goods when winning the VOBIS Sires last start and the stable has a decent opinion of the filly. The Lindsay Park-trained two-year-old was an easy winner on debut at Bendigo before running into Speed Street, but it quickly returned back to winning form at Caulfield and it will likely settle back from the wide barrier draw before showing its customary big finish. It opened at $5 with bookmakers, but has moved out slightly to $5.50.

Booker has been the best-backed runner in the field following its debut win. The Ellerton/Zahra-trained filly scored by a length down the Flemington straight and although this race will be a lot different, punters had to be pleased with its natural blistering pace. Drawing barrier four will allow it to settle on the speed and Damian Lane is riding in career best form. Currently $2.40 after touching $2.70 earlier in the week.

Race 3 – Mitty’s Port Adelaide Cup (2500m)

[rmOC_events_list event_ids=1133630_03]

High Church is one of the shortest-priced favourites of the day at $2. The Darren Weir-trained gelding finished fourth in the Easter Cup at Caulfield before winning the Warrnambool Cup by six lengths last start. Conditions will be different here, but it won its only start at Morphettville and it runs better on dry ground. It can throw in the odd poor effort, which has frustrated punters, but there isn’t much to this field and it could capitalise.

Time To Test could provide the test after finishing closely behind Goldstream on this track last start. The Tony McEvoy-trained gelding has won two of its three starts here and it looked impressive when winning by 4.5 lengths two starts back. It’s facing a much harder field here, but it coped last start and it gets in with a significant weight advantage over the favourite. $4.40 out from an opening quote of $4.20.

Race 4 – SA Fillies Classic (2500m)

Smart As You Think hasn’t quite kicked on as many had thought, but it had no luck last start and the ability is there. The John McArdle-trained filly ran eighth in the Oaks last start, but it was hampered on more than one occasion and punters should forgive that effort. The daughter of So You Think should get a good trip in transit and it should have no problems getting over this distance. Currently at a value price of $7.50.

Ana Royale has run four consecutive placings, including a fast finishing third in the Oaks last start. That form should be the best form guide for the Fillies Classic and its form prior included a placing behind Sword Of Light in thee VOBIS Gold Reef at Caulfield. It has won only one from 10 starts, but that’s typical of many stayers and the extra distance should play right into its hands. $3 into $2.90 with bookies.

Race 4 tip: Smart As You Think to place ($2.50) at Sportsbet.com.au

Race 5 – 7 News Cenraurea Stakes (2019m)

Sort After was well-backed for the Queen of the South last start where it ran fourth and improvement is expected now. The Waterhouse/Bott-trained mare hasn’t won since November of last year, but it has been taking on fields stronger than this and there is some confidence around in the four-year-old. It will likely be sent forward and give them all something to catch at $3.50.

Tick Tick Bloom caused the upset when winning at Warrnambool last start at odds of $11, but punters aren’t getting the same odds this time around. The Weir-trained mare is holding firm at $4 after its 1.25-length win on a heavy track, but it has form on the dry with 21 starts for seven wins. It’s undefeated in two starts at this distance and it looms as a major winning chance.

Race 6 – Hughes Limousines R.A. Lee Stakes (1600m)

[rmOC_events_list event_ids=1133630_06]

Hooked couldn’t have been more impressive when winning the Victoria Handicap last start and it could fire up again with some confidence. The Robert Smerdon-trained six-year-old was mixing its form prior, which included a second at Flemington, but was followed up with a 12th in the William Reid Stakes. Its winning strike rate is a big concern, but it’s now into solid form and on ability alone it has most of this field covered. It has stayed steady in the market at $3.20.

Burning Front is the obvious form horse after winning four of its last five starts. The Weir-trained front-runner was far too good for them in the VOBIS Gold Mile last start and it won the C.S. Hayes on this track only three starts back. It has won 17 of 47 starts which is a good strike rate and it will be very tough to beat from in front. It is weighted perfectly with 57.5kg and we’re expecting a big run at $2.50 after opening shorter in the market at $2.20.

Race 6 tip: Burning Front to win ($2.50) at Ladbrokes.com.au

Race 7 – Darley Goodwood (1200m)

Black Heart Bart is the class runner of the field and deserves plenty of respect. The Weir-trained champion has won back-to-back group one races coming into this, which included a one length win in the C.F. Orr Stakes at Caulfield. It is back in 2017 to defend its Goodwood title and it’s in better form than last year. Four of its 16 career wins have come at this distance and with over $3.7 million in career earnings, it looks a good bet at $3.50.

It’s tough to overlook the win of Secret Agenda in the Sangster last start because it did it so easily. The Mick Price-trained mare used its speed to cross to the front from barrier 16 and still showed them a clean pair of heels in the finish. It faces a much harder task here, but speed is speed and it has plenty to burn. Barrier five will allow it to spare some energy for a late burst and the $7 is a value price.

Race 7 tip: Black Heart Bart to win ($3.50) at Sportsbet.com.au

Race 8 – Proud Miss Stakes (1200m)

Ravi is on the drift after opening at $3.70, but it still has winning claims. The Snowden-trained sprinter is now out to $4 after running ninth in the Sangster, but that was an encouraging run and punters shouldn’t be ruling it out based on that effort. Its form last campaign included a nice win at Eagle Farm and it should run well on this track. Some moisture in the ground would be handy, but consider as a winning hope on any surface.

Fuhryk has a fair amount of quality and it showed last start when it flashed home behind Sweet Sherry in the Euclase Stakes. The Lindsay Park-trained filly was a two-length winner of the Kevin Hayes three starts back and it has since run in the Australian Guineas where it failed, but this is its preferred distance where it has won four from six. Jockey Craig Williams will likely settle it back and come with a storming finish.
