Daring deploy takes out the Theo Marks from the front

TRAINER Gerald Ryan admitted he has no plans in mind for five-year-old Deploy after it dominated from the front to take out the Group Two Theo Marks Stakes at Rosehill.

Under in-form jockey Josh Parr, Deploy set a hot tempo early and was never troubled from the front, storming away in the final 400m to win and deliver $3 to WilliamHill.com.au customers.

Egg Tart ($2.30 at Crownbet.com.au) defied the late drift to storm home late and claim second ahead of Euro Angel which did not return a dividend in the small field.

Ryan said the plan was to take the horse to the Epsom Handicap, but the trainer admitted he is having second thoughts after today’s win.

“We’ll sit down and think about it,” Ryan said.

“I was tossing around the idea of a crack at the Epsom but on today’s run I say no. There’s the Rupert Clarke in Melbourne, that’s always been at the back of my mind since he was in Queensland. If he went there he would go from today, he wouldn’t run again. Or freshen up and have a go at the consolation for the Everest.

“There’s plenty of options for him. One thing that’s good about the horse he doesn’t mind a bit of sting out of the ground either, he’s just a genuine, honest little racehorse.”

The trainer said he was not sure in the running if taking the horse to the front was the right option, but he was pleased Deploy was able to finish hard to the line.

“He was getting along.

“He was high-tailing it a little bit, I was just hoping he wasn’t going too fast but he’s a horse who doesn’t know when to lie down and he’s in great form at the moment.”

Ryan may have had his reservations about the front-running Deploy, but jockey Josh Parr was certain it was the right race move

It was another sensational ride by the in-form Parr, who said Deploy does not know how to quit.

“I was confident,” Parr said about the horse’s chances.

“He is in fantastic form at the moment and the stable has him absolutely flying. I’m pleased to get on him today. What a pleasure it is to ride these horses that are going so well. It is a great job. We can often take it for granted.”
