Dane Ripper Stakes betting tips – Saturday, 13 June 2020

Irithea racing news
Irithea (right) is set to run in the Dane Ripper Stakes at Eagle Farm this Saturday.

The Group 2 Dane Ripper Stakes (1400m) shapes to be a cracking race to conclude the best part of Brisbane’s Winter Carnival, with 15 quality mares set to face the starter in the final run at Eagle Farm this Saturday. Irithea is the current favourite ahead of Winter Bride, Outback Barbie and Baccarat Baby. Irithea and Ready To Prophet map to lead, with Shalwa also going forward. Some 11 of the 15 runners come through the Listed Helen Coughlan Stakes a fortnight ago, which was won by Shalwa. The race is set to jump at 4:35pm AEST.

Best Bet
Jen Rules @ $13

Jen Rules was the eye catcher late in the Helen Coughlan when third behind Shalwa and Krone. On that occasion, Team Snowden’s mare was caught three wide the trip and cornered about five or six horses wide before storming home into the minor money. She shouldn’t have that problem here having drawn barrier two. The Redoute’s Choice mare has finished in the placings in all three runs this campaign and should be fit and firing in what has been her winter target race. She’ll need some luck in running, but with the big straight at Eagle Farm, she should find clear air and be too good.

Next Best
Baccarat Baby @ $8

We are still picking ourselves up off the floor after Baccarat Baby just missed in the Wayne Wilson Handicap a month ago. She has had a bit of a freshen up and will come back to the 1400m, which is a distance she is effective at. The Casino Prince mare is as honest as the day is long, placing in all three runs this time in when beaten by 0.1, 0.2 and 0.2 of a length. She should get a lovely cart across from barrier 10 and find a spot just better than midfield with any luck. Regular rider Micheal Hellyer was hopeful to gain a start in the Stradbroke last weekend, just falling short as the first emergency. This looks a great race for Baccarat Baby and we simply cannot let her go around without us at the $8 mark.

Best Value
Outback Barbie @ $8

Tony Gollan’s mare Outback Barbie has been more miss than hit this campaign, but she looks just about ready to fire. She ran an admirable sixth in last weekend’s Stradbroke, beaten only 1.5 lengths where she wasn’t in the best part of the track. If she brings that form again, she can go very close here. She has never placed at this track in six goes, which is a big concern, but those runs do include multiple Group 1 attempts where she hasn’t been disgraced. From barrier three, Mark Du Plessis will park just off the leaders and look to finish off well. She will need to improve, but the return to fillies and mares grade has to suit her.
