Cranbourne Night

NIGHT racing is a great way to cool off after a long day in the sun and it’s even better when you’ve had a punt.

Cranbourne hosts eight races this Friday night which are all great punting fields and if you sign up now with CrownBet.com.au, you’ll get 100% up to $500 on your first deposit.

The night starts with the We Love A Bet Maiden Plate at 6.30pm which will see one runner graduate to the higher grades.

Race 1 – We Love A Bet Maiden Plate (1400m)

What Happens Next is on debut for Shane Nichols and its breeding suggests it could fire a shot. The three-year-old is by Choisir and it should get everything to suit on debut. It has a good draw, an apprentice claimer in the saddle and weak opposition.

Good Timing turned around a poor effort on debut to record a last start third. The Beer/Hinton-trained gelding was over five lengths away from the winner, but it should take good benefit from that race and it gets the inside draw to work with. Nice each way hope.

Christo Maniac also ran a last start placing. The Clinton McDonald-trained gelding finished three lengths behind Green Light and it’s expected to be well-favoured in the betting. Jake Noonan rides and it could show up in an even race.

Race 2 – Countdown To Karaka 3YO (1500m)

Cousin Muscles wasn’t far behind them on debut when fourth and it finished well for second last start. The Gerard Moloney-trained gelding drops back slightly in distance which shouldn’t be a worry and the inside draw will allow it to find a nice spot.

Bouffon was considered good enough to run at stakes level at Flemington last year, but it rightfully dropped out to finish last. The three-year-old has since run fifth in its only start this year and it should improve from that effort. It’s a good sign to see Craig Newitt in the saddle so watch betting with this runner.

Darren Weir lines up Navy Blue which ran well at Kilmore two back before finishing fourth at Cranbourne last start. The Illustrious Blue gelding will be well-educated from the stable and it might pay to follow any money invested here.

Race 2 tip: Bouffon to win at Palmerbet.com.au

Race 3 – De Bortoli Shiraz Maiden (1600m)

Snipfit went a much better race when second last start and it gets another inside draw. The Ken Keys-trained gelding ran a length behind Bush Flight is a similar race last week and Craig Newitt sticks with it. Should be well-liked in the market.

Grangemouth finished fifth in the same race as Snipfit last start and it should improve with the run. The Michael Trotter-trained gelding has placed in both starts at this distance and the rise in distance to 1600m should help its cause.

Rock And Rose is overdue for a win after four placings from eight starts. The Hayes/Dabernig-trained mare ran 3.85 lengths behind Jodi Nicole last start which is good form and it placed at its only start at this distance. Daughter of Fastnet Rock which goes into the mix.

Race 3 tip: Rock And Rose to win at CrownBet.com.au

Race 4 – Highview Accounting Services Maiden (1200m)

Club Tropicana placed at its first two career starts before running fourth last start. It has since spelled and we’re expecting bookmakers to open it at single figures in a fresh state. The daughter of Smart Missile has plenty of natural speed and a good winning chance despite the draw.

Improvement is expected from Miss Tomb Raider which finished second on debut at Yarra Valley. The Ciaron Maher-trained filly was nicely backed into $4.80 on that occasion and the daughter of Snitzel is expected to run well again.

Mick Price lines up Rosewedge which was expected to do more on debut. The well-bred filly by Foxwedge was the $4.20 favourite when finishing eighth of 10 runners at Sale, but expect a much better showing here and it should be well-backed again.

Race 4 tip: Miss Tomb Raider to place at Sportsbet.com.au

Race 5 – Mypunter R64 Handicap (1600m)

Slam Bam went very close when second at Yarra Valley last start and its form prior included a win at Kilmore and a solid effort at Moonee Valley. The Weir-trained mare fought hard behind Movie at Moonee Valley and the form in that race has stood up nicely. Good each way chance in this.

Hot Power has good fresh up form and it goes best at this distance. The nine-year-old has the experience edge over this field with 59 starts for seven wins and three have come at the mile. It’s not without a chance in a wide open betting field.

Mortified is a three-time winner at this distance and it finished second behind Lunar Spin two back at Moonee Valley, which is good form. The Wendy Kelly-trained gelding goes best on dry tracks so conditions should suit and it gets a 1.5kg claimer in the saddle.

Race 5 tip: Slam Bam to win at Bet365.com

Race 6 – Browns Sawdust & Shavings R78 (3000m)

Sagaab has won only two from 16 starts, but those came recently and it’s not without a chance in this. The Todd Balfour-trained gelding is bred to run out these distances, despite its failure at 2025m last start, but consider here at each way odds.

Presumption ran a much better race when second last start having finished 11th in its start prior. The Busuttin/Young-trained horse ran Shampion to within a length at Geelong and the son of High Chaparral should see out this distance.

Transfixed has won only one from 24 starts, but this distance looks ideal for the Richard Laming-trained gelding. It finished second at Mornington two back over 2415m and the step back in distance didn’t help it last start. Chance here.

Race 7 – Countdown To Karaka 2017 R64 (1000m)

Annagic has won its last two races in impressive fashion and it could make it the hat trick. The four-year-old mare has been lightly tried with only four starts and it was good enough to carry 60.5kg last time out. Drops in weight here and it should be considered.

Starvasive battled well behind Little Indian last start and its form prior included a third placing at Cranbourne. The Tony Noonan-trained mare has won and placed at this distance and its form last campaign suggests it will be hard to handle in this grade.

Imperial Empress placed at its only start on this track and it runs best at this distance. The Shea Eden-trained mare has had four starts for one win and two placings at the 1000m and it looks a good chance again with the 2kg claimer riding.

Race 7 tip: Starvasive to win at Sportsbet.com.au

Race 8 – Cranbourne Holden R70 (2080m)

Erector has been in good form throughout this campaign which featured back-to-back wins. The Robert Smerdon-trained runner has plenty of ability at this level and despite the wide draw it should feature in the placings with a good trip in transit.

Captain Kittinger is a six-win gelding which has won on this track. The son of Pentire comes into this with back-to-back wins and it won its most recent by 3.75 lengths. It has drawn to feature and it should go well.

My Sanctuary can’t seem to win a race, but it goes close. The Weir-trained mare ran second behind the city-performed Vandancer last start and that’s a good form guide for this. Not without a chance despite the lack of recent success.

Race 8 tip: Erector to win at Palmerbet.com.au
