Cox Plate 2018 News: Wild bets roll in on Winx

Sportsbet has a number of whacky Winx bets ahead of this weekend’s Cox Plate.

SUPERSTAR mare Winx is the odds on favourite to win a fourth-straight Cox Plate this weekend which means punters have had to let their creative juices flow in order to get a good return.

Online bookmaker Sportsbet has released some of the more interesting bets punters have wagered upon ahead of Saturday.

Jockey Hugh Bowman is at $1.30 to do his trademark ‘She’s Apples’ hand gesture any time after Winx wins and if he happens to throw the silks into the crowd investors can get a $10 return.

Will the tears flow tomorrow? You never know with the normally stoic Chris Waller, who is at $1.30 to shed a tear, but veteran Channel 7 commentator Bruce McAvaney, who seems highly likely to get emotional come race time, is rated as a $3 chance.

Many are expecting Saturday’s Cox Plate to be last time we see Winx on the competitive circuit so inevitably the online bookmakers have opened a market on who will be the first sire to serve the great mare.

Superstar sire Snitzel is at $6, Fastnet Rock is on the second line at $8 alongside English champion Frankel at Sportsbet.

Sportsbet representative Ella Zampatti said the money has rolled in for the mighty mare Winx.

“In addition to the great flood of bets that accompany Winx whenever she runs, punters are also getting around plenty of whacky bets on the superstar.

“There’s been plenty of interest around who will be first to serve her in the breeding barn where she’s sure to have no shortage of top class suitors.”
