SENSATIONAL Sydney mare Bonny O’Reilly could be set for the short turnaround for next week’s Stradbroke Handicap after a fantastic win in the final race on Queensland Oaks day.

The mare jumped as an even-money favourite across the board and justified the short odds, and jockey Jason Collett said he had no doubt the horse would get the job done.

“I could see that leader under a little bit of pressure rounding the bend,” Collett said.

“She was starting to wobble so, she left it open and I was straight in there.

“They’ve been placing her perfectly. She’s picked-up some black type now so it’s onwards and upwards from now.”

Bonny O’Reilly finished stylishly ahead of Selita ($4.80 at Crownbet.com.au) and the impressive Palazzo Pubblico, which returned $3.80 at Luxbet.com.au.

Despite the strong win, Bonny O’Reilly is at $21 at Ladbrokes.com.au to take out the Stradbroke Handicap.

There is no guarantees that the horse will get a start in next week’s feature, but stable representative Jack Bruce said the team is optimistic Bonny O’Reilly will get an opportunity to compete.

“We’re very hopeful she’ll get a penalty,” Bruce said.

“The way she put them away today with something up her sleeve. If she comes through in good order we’ll be there.

“When she quickens it’s something special to watch. Hopefully she can step up to the big time next week.

“She’s improved so much this preparation that if she gets a run it’s hard to pass up.”
