Commissioned bound for Melbourne Cup

The Melbourne Cup is the primary target for Royal Ascot winner Commissioned following his win in Britain’s longest flat race.

The accomplished hurdler won Saturday’s Queen Alexandra Stakes over two miles 5-1/2 furlongs (4300m) at his first start for his new owners and trainer Gordon Elliott.

Nick Bradley paid STG65,000 ($A127,965) for Commissioned at a dispersal sale after John Ferguson retired from training to concentrate on his new role as chief executive and racing manager for Godolphin.

“When I want to the sale, he was the horse I wanted to buy,” Bradley said.

“Saturday was obviously a great day and hopefully there’s a lot to look forward to.

“The Goodwood Cup is a possibility, or we could go to York for either the Ebor or the Lonsdale Cup, but the Melbourne Cup is Plan A.

“He won’t be going back over hurdles. He doesn’t look like a hurdler to me.”
