A nervous wait for Pukekohe-based jockey Alysha Collett has come to a dream end.

Her long-held hopes have been fulfilled with confirmation that she has been granted a licence by the Singapore Turf Club.

“I’m really stoked, I applied about two months ago so it’s been quite nerve-wracking,” Collett said.

“I found out this morning so I haven’t got all the details yet, but I’ll be going for six months after I originally thought it might have been three.”

Collett has been enjoying a productive domestic season with 75 winners to sit second on the National Jockeys’ Premiership and 20 behind her cousin Samantha Collett.

“Following on from last season it’s been going well, but unfortunately I’ve had the same amount of suspensions,” she said.

“For the first three months of the season I wanted to chase the premiership, but I was always going to apply for Singapore and it was about was what more important and that was Singapore – I’ll learn a lot more going over there.

“I’ll be freelancing and I’ve had a good talk to Donna Logan and there will be good opportunities.”

In the meantime, Collett will head to Awapuni on Saturday where she has a book of seven and three in black type events.

She will partner Sampson in the Group 2 City of Palmerston Awapuni Gold Cup (2000m), Joe’s Legacy in the Group 3 Higgins Concrete Manawatu Classic (2000m) and Shadows Cast in the Listed Bramco Granite Lightning Handicap (1200m).

“Sampson won the Cup last year so he’ll be a good ride and Joe’s Legacy is a nice horse,” Collett said. “He had an average draw in the Derby and ran home quite well so I’m looking forward to riding him and Shadows Cast runs a solid 1400m.”
