Clipperton itching to get to Hong Kong

Sam Clipperton has had his last ride in Sydney before he jets off for a stint in the highly competitive Hong Kong arena.

Clipperton has been given a club contract to ride in the Asian racing capital until December.

“I can’t wait to get over there, Clipperton said.

“I’m going to have a couple of weeks break just to get things organised and have a little freshen-up as well.

“Then I’ll go over there guns blazing, work hard and give myself every chance.”

Clipperton said it was a privilege to get an opportunity to ride in Hong Kong, but the young jockey isn’t setting himself any specific goals for his Asian stint.

“I’m going to work as hard as possible and make sure I make the move a success, Clipperton said.

He had his final rides in Sydney for the time being at Canterbury and although he didn’t have a winner, it has been a great season for Clipperton.

He rode his first two Group One winners – Peeping in the Coolmore Classic in March and English in the All Aged Stakes at the end of the Sydney carnival.

“It’s been a great season with a lot of special moments,” Clipperton said.

“I’ve just got to cherish those moments and continue to work hard.”

Clipperton had four rides at Canterbury on Saturday, with his best result coming on Hair Trigger who finished third in the first race.

He ended 2015/16 in the top 10 on the Sydney premiership table in his second season as a senior jockey after winning back-to-back apprentices titles.
