Chris Munce to be Johnny on the spot at Doomben

Trainer Chris Munce has wasted no time getting exciting three-year-old Johnny Whitesox into Saturday class at Doomben.

Johnny Whitesox made it two wins from four starts when he dominated a handy midweek field at Ipswich two weeks ago.

Trainer Stuart Kendrick has also elected to run the equally promising Rancho Montoya in the three-year-old handicap (1350m) rather than a Class Three Plate.

Munce also nominated Johnny Whitesox for the Class Three but decided to keep him to his own age.

“After he won at Ipswich I said he was a definite Saturday horse and this race while stronger is ideal for him,” Munce said.

He hopes Johnny Whitesox will at least run 1600m and might develop into a carnival horse.

A son of top Queensland sire Show A Heart, Johnny Whitesox is raced by a syndicate headed by Shelley Hancox.

Munce has another promising horse, Expertea, who is also raced by a Hancox syndicate.

Expertea, who has won two of her past three starts, will tackle a Benchmark 80 (2000m) on Saturday.

“I am hoping she will develop into a Caloundra Cup – Grafton Cup horse later in the year,” Munce said.

“Shelley was a great supporter of mine as a jockey and now as a trainer. So it is good to get some nice horses for her.”
