Change of luck lands Golden Sunset bonus money at Beaudesert

GOLDEN Sunset hadn’t won a race in 17 starts for Deagon-based trainer Pat Duff, but it has now won two races within seven days after winning the Trackside Photography Plate at Beaudesert on Saturday.

The three-year-old filly also locked in a QTIS Fillies bonus in the process which was a welcome sight to Duff, who had been close to scoring with the daughter of Clang on many occasions.

“It’s quite amazing, that’s two on the trot,” an elated Pat Duff told HorseBetting.com.au. “She’s been one of the most unluckiest horses I’ve trained for many a day.

“She’s had so many seconds and beaten by horses that have gone on with it.

“Being a filly, she gets a QTIS bonus and also a fillies bonus. I think she gets around $25,000 for that win and she’s had two in a week.”

Prior to its maiden win last Saturday, Jeff Lloyd had ridden the filly at Sunshine Coast and he couldn’t believe it was still a maiden having run second behind the likes of quality types Ahndras and Captain The World.

“Jeff Lloyd said before she won last week, he said ‘I do not know how this is a maiden’,” Duff said. “She just turned it around. She’s a lovely filly.”

Duff purchased the bonus winner from Gainsborough Lodge for a steal of $26,000 and it has now won almost $70,000 – not including the QTIS bonus picked up on Saturday.

“I bought her off Gainsborough Lodge, I always believe they develop nice horses up there,” he said.

“She wasn’t expensive and she’s pushing the $70,000 mark now.

“They’re great owners, the Rochford’s, loyal supporters of mine for many years.”

Duff will take a cautious approach with the heavily-tried filly, but believes it’s up to town class.

“She’s a lovely filly, by Clang, and the dam is a full sister to a very good horse that raced many years ago,” Duff said.

“She’ll run a mile when she’s a seasoned four-year-old.

“I’ll take it run by run. We backed up her week-to-week so we won’t rush her now, but we’ll more likely go for a fillies race in town.

“We won’t make any major steps. She still has class coming through and I think she’s got a future.”
