Wednesday racing tips for Caulfield
An eight-race card is set down for Blue Sapphire Stakes Day at Caulfield on Wednesday afternoon. Despite the feature event only containing three starters, the standard of the card looks superb throughout.
Race 2 is the Coongy Cup, which is the last chance for connections to have a runner in the Caulfield Cup on Saturday. If you win, you’re in – it’s as simple as that.
The first race is set to jump at 1:25pm AEDT. The track is currently a Good 4 and the rail is out 10m, as it was for this meeting last year.
Race 5 – Saracen Knight (#7)It was hard to miss the incredible win that Saracen Knight snared last time out at Caulfield three weeks ago when storming home from a seemingly horrific position to get up in the shadows of the winning post. The extra 400m looks to be a massive positive for the Danny O’Brien galloper on the road to the Melbourne Cup, where he is well in the market. Damian Lane will look to settle the gelding towards the back of the field and then charge home late to get punters off to a flyer in the first leg of the quaddie.

Race 2 – Al Galayel (#3)It’s hard to find a more in-form galloper than this 7YO gelding from the Maher & Eustace stable. He was a soft winner last start at The Valley when taking out the JRA Cup three weeks ago, and more of the same here should be enough to stamp his ticket into the Caulfield Cup on Saturday. It was a query prior to the JRA Cup if he could handle the wet ground, and he did it with ease. With a favourable forecast for Wednesday, he gets back onto a Good track and should account for the nine-horse field in the Coongy Cup.

Race 8 – La Tigeresa (#14)Jason Warren and Michael Rodd team up in the get-out stakes with a 6YO mare who is as tough as old boots. The wide barrier shouldn’t concern punters, considering she’s usually settling worse than midfield in any case. Her last start was a massive run to only go down a neck in third place behind Fabric when charging home late. If she runs to that form here, she’ll give you a nice sight at odds in a wide-open finale.
