Caulfield racing tips & best bets – Saturday, 19 September 2020
It is Sir Rupert Clarke Stakes Day at Caulfield, where nine races will be set down for judgement this Saturday. The card is chock full of talent, with top weight Behemoth topping a quality field in the betting for the Group 1 feature race.
Also on the card is the Group 3 MRC Foundation Cup, where the winner will get the golden ticket into the 2020 Caulfield Cup. Orderofthegarter for Danny O’Brien is favourite in a wide-open affair.
The track is a Good 4, the forecast says 25 degrees, and the first race is scheduled to jump at 12:30pm AEST on what promises to be a great day of racing.

Geoff Duryea and Lewis German team up again with The Kosciuszko favourite, Front Page, who resumes in what looks to be a match race between him and the South Australian sprinter Octane. In a race where the two favourites will settle at either end of the field, Front Page has to go on top. He maps to get a share of the lead with pace underneath him by From Within and so may sit one off the rails. Octane will give his rival four lengths when turning, and that could the killer. If Front Page has the turn of foot he showed all last campaign when undefeated in three runs, he will be far too good for Octane and the rest of the field as he starts his campaign towards The Kosciuszko.

Anthony Freedman’s 4YO mare looks the best way to round off a great day of racing at Caulfield. Lyre was narrowly beaten when resuming three weeks back in The Heath 1100, where she only saw genuine daylight at the 200m and absolutely flew home to only be beaten a neck by Diamond Effort. She gets back to the track and distance which saw her take out the 2019 Blue Diamond Stakes and maps beautifully to get an economical run. Second favourite Felicia maps to take up the running, so Lyre will be on the back of that galloper the whole trip and ready to show her impressive turn of foot.

Zousonic was superb upon resumption at Bendigo back on September 2, showing a nice turn of foot to swoop the leaders on a day dominated by on-pace runners. She gets an extra 100m here and looks more than capable of going on with it. She steps up in grade but gets in well at the weights and looks a knockout chance.
