Canterbury quaddie form, odds and free tips, Wednesday August 10

quaddie of the week

AFTER what feels like a year of rain, Sydney is seeing sunnier skies this week and punters should get a nice track to bet on.

The Wednesday quaddie moves to Canterbury this week where some talented thoroughbreds step out before embarking on potential spring campaigns.

The opening race of the quaddie goes at 3.15pm with rating 66 handicap where there will be eyes on the Chris Waller-trained three-year-olds.

Leg 1 – Rating 66 Handicap (1250m)

Gretna is fresh up for Chris Waller following a campaign which featured a win at Moonee Valley. The three-year-old filly had no luck in its following start behind Najmaat and it finished off well last time out at Rosehill for fourth. This is a significantly easier race and despite carrying 61kg, it should be in the mix.

Last start winner Overstep is also from the Waller stables and it should rise through the grades. The Exceed And Excel filly finished a close third on debut at Bendigo before heading to Canterbury and winning by 1.3 lengths. It looked to have plenty in hand and considering it ran as a $1.60 chance on debut, there is plenty expected of it now.

The third of the Waller-trained runners is Sezanne. It has had three starts for two placings and the form behind Redouble last start should stack up nicely. It gets in better on the weights than its stablemates at 59kg so include in quaddie selections.

Leg 1 tips: 1, 2, 9

Leg 2 – Theraces Rating 72 Handicap (1250m)

Chetwood was scratched last week to find a better racing surface and it should appreciate conditions here. The John O’Shea-trained gelding was a winner on debut by 3.8 lengths before being asked to carry 61kg second up. Its run for third in the Gosford Guineas behind Lady Sniper was quality and the 3kg claim of Andrew Adkins will take it close.

Cannyescent is another which has been holding out for a better track. The four-year-old gelding has plenty of talent as shown when fourth in the Ming Dynasty and forget its most recent run in the Eskimo Prince as it pulled up with an injury. The son of Canny Lad won at Randwick two starts back with a good late finish and a similar effort is expected in this.

Include Surfin’ Safari in quaddie bets as it is a four-time winner from 17 starts and it returned to form with a last start placing on this track.

Leg 2 tips: 1, 2, 4

Leg 3 – Hyland Race Colours R67 Handicap (1550m)

Ready Already will be looking to give the Waterhouse/Bott partnership another win and it’s coming off a handy last start placing. The four-year-old is a winner of two from 11 and it finished third behind Quick Defense on this track last time out. The inside draw will suit and it should go well at each way odds.

Aurora Glow is a last start winner for Chris Waller which will have to cope with barrier 12. The Northern Meteor mare goes best on rain-affected tracks so conditions won’t be too bad for it and it has won and placed on this track. Its win at Wyong came in a much easier grade, but it might kick on with it now.

Stablemate My Giuliano lined up in a strong maiden field last start when beating fellow stablemate Firebird Flyer. The four-year-old gelding has good form at this track and its form has been solid against some handy maiden fields. Berry is riding in good form and it looks an obvious inclusion.

Former New Zealand runner Antonio Guiseppe was a winner on debut, but its best effort came when sixth behind recent winner Valley Girl in the Hallmark Stud Mile at Ellerslie. It ran fifth in its Australian debut and it will only strengthen from that. Looks a nice addition to quaddie bets.

Leg 3 tips: 1, 3, 5, 7

Leg 4 – Tab Rating 72 Handicap (1100m)

Moment of Music has drawn barrier 15 which is an immediate turn-off, but its form is too good to overlook. The Kris Lees-trained mare finished fifth in the Inglis Sprint behind Lady Sniper and it won its two starts prior by a combined margin of 3.8 lengths. Big chance here with some early luck.

Zin Zan Elsie is fresh up following a third placing at Randwick last start. Matthew Smith trains the five-year-old mare which has finished out of the money in only one of its eight career starts and it should be ready to fire. Inside draw and a 3kg claimer will help.

Include Untamed Diamond, Volante and Think Aloud. All three have plenty of ability and should be paying decent money in the betting.

Leg 4 tips: 1, 2, 3, 4, 8
