quaddie of the week

GREAT betting fields are the order of the day at Canterbury on Wednesday and quaddie punters should be excited about the card.

The Canterbury quaddie kicks off with a wide open three-year-old which features multiple winning chances, but things get a little easier for punters from there.

The top Sydney trainers will again have their say this Wednesday and the best place to take a quaddie bet is with CrownBet.com.au.

Leg 1 – Tab Maiden Handicap (1100m)

Spirit And Fire has been the best backed runner in the field. The Hawkes-trained colt opened at $4.20 and is currently sitting at $3.80. It has great breeding (More Than Ready x Amelia’s Dream) and a top debut effort is expected. Won a barrier trial by 3.5 lengths so it clearly has talent.

Stablemate Missile Strike was also a handy trial winner. The Smart Missile colt won by 2.5 lengths at Rosehill and it has been kept safe in the market at $4.20. Tommy Berry is listed to ride both horses which means one could be scratched, but both should be included as either will give quaddie bettors a strong winning chance.

Glenall has drawn wide in barrier 15 which will turn punters off, but it must be included on its trial effort. It finished a neck behind Tango Rain which is since stakes placed in the San Domenico Stakes and if it can get some early luck from out wide, it looms as a major threat at $5.

Leg 1 tips: 4, 5, 7

Leg 2 – Theraces R71 Handicap (1100m)

Lucky Fish has been backed and beaten in three starts this campaign, but this looks a suitable target for the four-year-old. Trained by Mark Newnham, the son of Exceed And Excel showed its class when finishing fourth behind Lady Sniper in the Inglis Sprint and it has enough speed to win at midweek level. $3.20 suggests the stable is confident.

On the second line of betting is Strindberg which is fresh up after two consecutive last-place finishes. The Hawkes-trained gelding is looking to rebound after two shockers, but it runs best when fresh and it goes best at this distance. $3.60 to win suggests a good run is expected.

Moment Of Music is another fresh up runner which has won twice from four fresh up starts. The Kris Lees-trained mare finished fifth in the Inglis Sprint at Randwick last start which followed back-to-back wins. It can handle all track conditions and the $7 on offer is good value.

Leg 2 tips: 3, 6, 7

Leg 3 – Hyland Race Colours R72 Handicap (1250m)

Courtza King is getting close to a win after an encouraging third placing at Kembla Grange. The Peter and Paul Snowden-trained gelding has won only two from 11 and although it has form on rain-affected tracks, it might be looking for a slightly firmer surface where it runs best. $6 is worth including it.

Dinghu Mountain is a swimmer which finished off well to win at Rosehill last start. The Chris Waller-trained gelding has won both race starts on a slow track and it will be needing conditions to suit to show its best form. The son of Snitzel is racing in good form and punters agree at $3.40.

Crafty Cop saw no daylight at Caulfield when Dwayne Dunn was in the saddle, but it should get a much better ride with Tommy Berry in the saddle. The Hawkes-trained colt won by 2.8 lengths on debut before finishing third behind Attention in the Baillieu. Forget its last start and go again here. It opened at $5.50 and has been backed into $5.

Leg 3 tips: 4, 5, 8

Leg 4 – Tab Rewards R71 Handicap (1250m)

John O’Shea lines up Tremor which flashed home late behind Interstellar last start and that form should stack up nicely for this. It won its only start at Canterbury which came three starts back by a half-length and it enjoys running on rain-affected surfaces. $4.20 in the market and it looks the clear top quaddie pick.

Includes the likes of La Muse, Fleetor and Rakitno. All three are capable of taking this out at nice odds and could add some value to the final leg of the quaddie.

Leg 4 tips: 3, 8, 11, 14
