Cantbuybetter in change of luck for Currie

Trainer Ben Currie went from the basement to the penthouse in the space of 40 minutes when Cantbuybetter won at Toowoomba.

Currie’s filly Girl In A Million was backed as though unbeatable in the two-year-old race but ran second last, beaten 15 lengths.

However, Cantbuybetter ($5) went some way to easing the pain when he came from second last to win the Wimmers Premium Soft Drinks Handicap (1300m).

Apprentice Rebecca Williams claimed 3kg but Cantbuybetter still carried 59.5kg.

“He really deserved that win. The saddle slipped two runs back at Toowoomba and then he had no luck at all at Doomben in an open handicap,” Currie said.

“Cantbuytbetter has now won five from nine tries at Toowoomba so he does like the track.”

It was Currie’s 43rd winner at Toowoomba for the season.

Williams made it a race-to-race double when Real Ego ($14) also came from well back to win the Aquis Farm Handicap (1300m).

Trainer Rex Lipp has always had a high opinion of Real Ego who is out of one his former handy mares in Seconde.

Lipp has trained dozens of winner for Real Ego’s owners the Boucher family whose broodmare Royal Shiraz is the dam of Lipp’s promising three-year-old Our Beebee.
