Canberra Friday afternoon form & tips, February 2

THE nation’s capital is back hosting racing this Friday and we’re looking forward to what’s on offer in the ACT.

We have gone through all eight events and provided tips for every race on the Canberra card, so let’s get stuck into it.

Race 1 – 2YO Handicap (1000m)

Local runner The Unknown Factor is resuming after two months away from the track and if the debut run is any indication it could be a progressive type. Even after a tardy beginning the horse was far too good for them in its first-ever start. Looks the goods in a small field.

Race 1 tip: The Unknown Factor to win at Sportsbet

Race 2 – Benchmark 55 (1000m)

Lulu Raez drops back every so slightly in grade here, which will prove pivotal. We already thought the horse was well above this class and we’re backing it to prove it on Friday.

Race 2 tip: Lulu Raez to win at Neds

Race 3 – Maiden (1000m)

Accountant will need to improve significantly on its first-up run, but a drop in weight and a handy gate means we cannot count the three-year-old here. We expect a sharp step-up in quality from the debut run and we think it can do the business here.

Race 3 tip: Accountant to win at Sportsbet

Race 4 – Canberra Sprint (1000m)

Miss Liffey returns to Canberra after finishing fourth at Canterbury in a BM76 event, and we think it can return to its winning ways in less competitive company. Before that fourth placed finish the horse had notched up two-straight wins to kick off its preparation and we think it will return to that success on Friday.

Race 4 tip: Miss Liffey to win at William Hill

Race 5 – Maiden Handicap (1300m)

A good gate and decent second-up form has forced us to select Astronomy in a weak maiden. The horse was very ordinary first-up on January 13 but before being turned out the horse was only a nose off winning at Wagga in July. This race is within Astronomy’s grasp.

Race 5 tip: Astronomy to win at Neds

Race 6 – Maiden Handicap (1600m)

[rmOC_events_list event_ids=1180951_06]

Bella Deluxe has been making progression with every run this preparation, finishing fourth upon resumption before delivering back-to-back placings. Each of those first-three runs the horse has made up ground on the winner each time and looks poised to win now.

Race 6 tip: Bella Deluxe to win at William Hill

Race 7 – Benchmark 60 (1400m)

[rmOC_events_list event_ids=1180951_07]

Tougherthantherest has been sensational this preparation, winning once and placing the remaining three times. The horse missed out by half a length at Canberra at this level last time out and from barrier four will have the perfect run into the event.

Race 7 tip: Tougherthantherest to win at Crownbet

Race 8 – Class 1 Handicap (1200m)

[rmOC_events_list event_ids=1180951_08]

Jindaberra broke the maiden at the 14th time of asking, but we think it can deliver a follow-up win straight away. The horse has a great third-up record of two placings from as many starts and will be right around the mark to go back-to-back here.

Race 8 tip: Jindaberra to win at Crownbet
