Call for inquiry into horseracing
An animal welfare group has called for an inquiry into the horseracing industry, saying that like greyhound racing, thousands of animals are killed because they are deemed uncompetitive.
The Coalition for the Protection of Racehorses says about 10,000 racehorses are retired each year but there is no way to track what happens to them.
“It’s time for governments in each state to take affirmative action because, like greyhound racing, they’ve shown themselves incapable of self-regulation,” CPR campaign director Elio Celotto said.
