Bush trainer to appeal six-week suspension
Bob Challis is appealing a six-week suspension for failing to report a horse he trains as a bleeder following trackwork.
A Racing Victoria stewards inquiry found the Challis-trained Handicap Honours bled from both nostrils after trackwork at Kyneton on April 12 and was displaying blood in one nostril on April 16.
Challis pleaded guilty to two charges and was suspended for six weeks for failing to report to stewards the first bleeding attack and three weeks on the second offence with the bans to be served concurrently.
He is appealing the severity of sentence to the Racing Appeals and Disciplinary Board and was granted a stay of proceedinsg until the hearing on Wednesday.
Challis has told stewards that Handicap Honours has been retired from racing.
