Trainer Daryl Hansen has confirmed his respect for jockey Tiffani Brooker by retaining her for Monsieur Gustave in a Group Two race on Saturday.

Monsieur Gustave, who won four Stakes races last year with Brooker in the saddle for three, returns in the Group Two Victory Stakes.

Brooker rode her eighth winner for Hansen this season when she scored on Pennino at Doomben last Saturday.

She has a 22 per cent winning strike and better than 50 per cent place strike rate with Hansen this season.

Monsieur Gustave won the Listed Eye Liner Stakes and Listed Glasshouse Mountains Stakes last winter.

He showed that was no fluke by winning the Listed Keith Noud and the Group Three George Moore Stakes at his first two runs from a spell in the summer.

While he was beaten at his next two starts there were excuses on both occasions.

Hansen said he had always intended to give Monsieur Gustave a chance in the winter with the major stakes sprint races races at Doomben and Sunshine Coast where he has a good record.

“We will get a better idea where he is at after Saturday as there are a couple of Group one class horses in the field,” he said.

Monsieur Gustave is a noted second-up horse but Hansen said the gelding had also won twice first-up.

Brooker is excited about getting a ride on one of her favourite horses in a Group Two race.

“Darryl does a great job with his horses and I hope we are in with a real chance,” she said.

Brooker has won two Group Three races and several Listed races so it would be her biggest win to date.
