British jumps title goes down to the wire

Willie Mullins appears to be going all out to land a first British trainers’ jumps championship with Vautour entered in the Bet365 Chase at Sandown.

The multiple Irish champion, Mullins has fallen STG45,380 ($A83,649) behind defending titleholder Paul Nicholls who sent out eight winners over the weekend.

Saturday’s Sandown meeting is the last of the National Hunt season.

Mullins has also entered Ballycasey, Sir Des Champs, Valseur Lido and Vroum Vroum Mag in the extended two-mile-six-furlong (4400m) contest.

Nicholls could call on Art Mauresque, former champion chaser Dodging Bullets, Rocky Creek, Saphir Du Rheu and Wonderful Charm.

In the Bet365 Select Hurdle Mullins and Nicholls have eight of the 17 entries.

“They’re all just entries at the moment. I haven’t had a chance to look through them yet, so I’ll do that at some stage and see where we are,” Mullins said.

Everything is in the mix at the moment.”

Mullins also confirmed his next runners in Britain would be at Perth on Wednesday.
