Bowman guides Thames Court to G3 win

Less than a week after Griante won the The Galaxy in Sydney, stablemate Thames Court has also put herself in contention for a Group One race.

Three-year-old Thames Court had to cover ground from a wide gate but proved too strong, racing to a 2-1/2 length win over Labdien in Thursday night’s Group Three Alexandra Stakes at Moonee Valley.

While a trip to Sydney could be considered, the Australasian Oaks (2000m) in Adelaide looks a likely target for the daughter of Commands this campaign.

Top Sydney jockey Hugh Bowman reunited with Thames Court having been aboard the filly when she finished third in a Group Two race at the same track last spring.

“She has got good form around this track,” Bowman said.

“I was awkwardly placed in the early stages but she was able to overcome that.

“She’s strengthened up a bit from the spring. I think she’s better with a bit more cut in the ground, but she was good tonight.”

Meanwhile, trainer John McArdle has come within .02sec of winning a new car.

The McArdle-trained Beau Rada won the final heat of this season’s Jeep 55 Second Challenge with the trainer of the horse who records the fastest winning time over the season taking home a car.

Beau Rada clocked 54.92sec in Friday night’s race, just short of the time the Darren Weir-trained Tuscan Sling ran to win in September.
