Boom sire to dominate Millions

Spirit of Boom (left) is off to a successful start to his stud career in Queensland.

Studmaster Scott McAlpine is hopeful first-season sire Spirit of Boom’s outstanding start will get even better in coming weeks.

McAlpine, who runs the Eureka Stud on the Darling Downs, raced Spirit of Boom who won the 2014 Group One Doomben 10,000.

Rather than send the stallion to NSW or Victoria, McAlpine elected to give him a chance in Queensland.

“There aren’t many Group One winning stallions who stand up here but he has been very well supported,” McAlpine said.

Spirit of Boom has got off to a flying start and after only two months of the juvenile season has the statistics to prove it.

He had a winning double at the Gold Coast on Saturday with Holdin My Own and Bold Aurora winning the divisions of the two-year-old handicap.

“Spirit of Boom has had 12 horses to start to date for five winners and only two of them haven’t earned prize money,” McAlpine said.

He is hoping Spirit of Boom will have at least four representatives in the $2 million Magic Millions Classic on January 13.

“Ef Troop and Jonker are already well in the betting markets,” he said.

“There are a couple of others likely to run in the Mliions. I understand some handy ones will be having trials on Tuesday before having their first starts in coming weeks.”
