Bollinger chasing elusive big-race winner

Sydney Sixers cricketer Doug Bollinger’s interest in horse racing isn’t waning, despite selling his remaining stakes a number of horses.

He has just sold Man of Distinction, and was also involved in Kim Waugh’s Rapid Attack and a horse named Rampaging.

Man of Distinction won three minor races when trained by Gai Waterhouse.

While they haven’t been big winners, Bollinger will still keep the door open to a promising purchase.

“I’ve had a couple of winners, but no Group Ones. I wish,” he told AAP.

“But who knows what the future holds. Hopefully one day (I’ll buy again), we just have to see what happens.”

He has been known to head to early morning trackwork in icy temperatures just to see how his horses are tracking.

“You appreciate what they can do. It’s always interesting,” he said.

Bollinger was one of the guests of honour at the Western Sydney Legends Day at Rosehill, on the last day of the Golden Slipper carnival.

With a formguide in hand wherever he went, Bollinger was enjoying the punters side of the sport.

“I’ve backed one, and let’s hope there’s a few more,” he said.
