Blue Desert Moon injured in Plate
Blue Desert Moon has come out of her first defeat the worse for wear with trainer Tony Sears hoping the filly can make a quick recovery.
The winner of her previous four starts, Blue Desert Moon finished 20 lengths last in Saturday’s Listed Mick Dittman Plate.
The filly did not show her usual brilliant speed from the barriers and took 200 metres to join Wicked Intent in the lead.
She stopped quickly in the straight and Sears said he knew something was wrong.
“Blue Desert Moon is far better than that so I knew something had gone wrong,” Sears said.
He was quickly proved correct when stewards footage showed Blue Desert Moon had jumped awkwardly and was then bumped just after the start.
“It was a pretty bad bump and knocked her around,” Sears said.
Racing Queensland veterinary officer Martin Lenz reported the filly had sprung her near fore plate and had speedy cuts to her near hind leg.
Sears said he would get further veterinary tests and monitor Blue Desert Moon for any further problems.
“Hopefully, she will be back on track soon for the winter,” he said.
