Black Caviar foals Oscietra & Prince Of Caviar trial at Flemington
The first foal of unbeaten champion mare Black Caviar is set for her racetrack return following a jump-out victory at Flemington.
Oscietra is set to resume in a three-year-old fillies race over 1000m at Moonee Valley next Friday.
The three-year-old easily won the 800m jump-out under Luke Nolen on Friday morning with a group of the filly’s owners on hand to watch the heat.
Part-owner Neil Werrett said the ownership group was looking forward to seeing the filly run again.
A winner at Geelong in August, Oscietra hasn’t raced since finishing ninth at Flemington over 1000m last September.
“She’s come back stronger this time,” Werrett said.
“I think Friday night will be the acid test for her now but we’re all looking forward to it.”
Those owners at Flemington had the added bonus of watching Black Caviar’s second foal, two-year-old colt Prince Of Caviar, go through his paces.
While Oscietra is prepared by Lindsay Park, Prince Of Caviar has been entrusted to the Hawkes Racing stable.
Prince Of Caviar was comfortably beaten in the 800m jump-out, but wasn’t knocked around, with Werrett saying it was a part of the education process for the colt.
The colt is one of 82 two-year-olds among third acceptors for the Blue Diamond Stakes on February 24 and holds an entry for next month’s Golden Slipper at Rosehill.
“He ran well but he’s still young. He’s a bit like her, still maturing,” Werrett said.
“John and Wayne (Hawkes) will make a decision, probably Wednesday next week, whether he heads to the paddock or has another trial or a gallop.”
Werrett said there were no plans when Prince Of Caviar would make his debut.
