Big market movers for Saturday at Doomben, Rosehill & Flemington

Crownbet Market movers
WE got some great action last Saturday with group ones in Brisbane and Adelaide, but just how well did punters do across the three meetings at Doomben, Rosehill and Flemington?

There were some well-favoured horses which returned some nice dividends for punters, but it wasn’t all plan sailing as all three meetings threw in some interesting results.

Our horse to follow from Saturday was Bonny O’Reilly for Bjorn Baker, which sat on a hot speed up front and still had enough in the tank to hold off the opposition.

It’s a mare on the way up and punters should continue to cash in.

We start the CrownBet.com.au betting report at Flemington where it was a tough day for punters. The early favourites failed to crow and there was some late upsets which no one saw coming.

Bookmakers report – Flemington

Race 1: Aloisia ($17), from Salsamor and Grunt

Aloisia opened at $9, but was not wanted by punters. It steadily drifted in the betting as most of the money came for Indernile, which opened at $5.50 and closed in at $4.40. Both Salsamor ($10 out to $21) and Grunt ($21 out to $26) drifted significantly in the betting.

Race 2: Overstep ($9.50), from Motown Lil and Divine Quality

Punters got burned heavily in the second race as Divine Quality got overhauled late at odds of $2.30. The strong money came for Motown Lil which opened at $7.50 and closed at $5.50, but it finished second best behind Overstep, which drifted in the market and punters were getting close to double figure odds.

Race 3: Northern Journey ($101), from New Graduate and Shoreham

It didn’t get much better for punters with Northern Journey winning at triple figure odds. After opening at $61 it came as no surprise to see it drift in the market. There was good money for New Graduate ($10 into $6.50), but again punters were left licking their wounds.

Race 4: Guangzhou ($11), from Bettyrae Ruby and Atlantic Express

The winner was well-backed in from $21 and some smart punters cashed in. It was a strange betting race with Spanner Head opening at $3.80, firming into $2.60, but drifting significantly late to $3.40. Strong money also came for Greviste, but both finished out of the placings. All three place bearing runners paid double figure odds with CrownBet.

Race 5: Sovereign Nation ($7.50), from Well Sprung and Tucanchoo

There wasn’t too much action in the market, with the only well-backed runner being Well Sprung ($21 into $10), which came up just short. Again the favoured runners finished out of the placings with Radipole ($13 into $5.50) being the best result for bookmakers.

Race 6: De Little Engine ($3.20), from Mujadale and Like A Carousel

We couldn’t quite believe De Little Engine’s drift in the market after opening at $2.30, but punters late to the party were able to cash in. Huge money came for Renew, which closed at $3.80 after opening at $13, but the recent Warrnambool winner wasn’t able to threaten. Mujadale was also well-backed into $7.50 after opening at $15.

Race 7: Tashbeeh ($21), from Yesterday’s Songs and Tried And Tired

Tashbeeh was a drifter with bookmakers after opening at $13 and that help set up a big trifecta a payout which included Yesterday’s Songs at $21 and Tried And Tired which was paying $81 to win. It was another top result for bookmakers.

Race 8: Extra Zero ($34), from Haradafull and Self Sense

The pain continued for favourite punters with Extra Zero winning at its 100th start. It wasn’t fancied in the betting, but it burst through to beat Haradafull which closed in at $4.80. Self Sense drifted from $15 to $31, but held on well for third.

Race 9: Zourkhan ($34), from Portion Control and Fastnet Latina

Punters came for American import Fastnet Latina again after it disappointed last start, but the money was left hanging again. It opened at $8 and closed at $3.40, but all honours went with Zourkhan which was specked in from $41.

Horse to follow from Flemington: De Little Engine

Keep following this staying type which won’t be contesting the Caulfield and Melbourne Cup, but it’s running well enough to suggest it will keep winning over the staying features in the early months of spring.

Bookmakers report – Rosehill

Race 1: Viridine ($4), from Pendeloque and Charlie Chap

Viridine opened as the favourite, but all the late money came for Adsum which left punters out on a limb. After opening at $8 it was backed into $3.20, but was unable to place. Viridine drifted to $4 after opening at $3.60 and it remained unbeaten in the process.

Race 2: Quick Feet ($13), from White Moss and Fleeting Stryke

There were three runners at single figure odds, but only White Moss could manage a placing. Passage Of Time and Gretna were both well-liked in the betting, but the win belonged to Quick Feet which drifted from $8 to $13.

Race 3: New Universe ($1.80), from Vienna Romance and Memes

Punters were spot on in their assessment of former Kiwi runner New Universe, which made it back-to-back wins in Australia. It opened at $2.50 and was smashed into odds on late in the race. Vienna Romance added some value to multiples at $21 with Memes running third at $6.50.

Race 4: Hay Now ($3.80), from Red Knot and Bolshoi Devoushka

Punters went bang bang at Rosehill as the second consecutive favourite saluted. Hay Now wasn’t as confidently backed as New Universe, but the $3.80 was gladly accepted after opening at $4. Puzzling Wonder was the big mover from $21 to $8, but it was unable to fill a placing.

Race 5: Clear The Beach ($13), from Dissolute and Old Man Sam

Money did come for Secret Trail and Pepperberry late, but punters seemed reluctant to make a big move on any runner. Clear The Beach stayed steady in the market and only Old Man Sam returned a nice place dividend for punters that took the early $15 on offer.

Race 6: Broadside ($5), from Get On The Grange and More Energy

Another former New Zealander was too good for them as each way punters got a good result with Broadside. It opened at $7, but punters had good faith in the runner which had run well third-up in the past. Get On The Grange was heavily backed into $41 after opening at $81 and More Energy ($41) added to the big trifecta.

Race 7: Invinzabeel ($10), from Berry Delicious and Moher

The tricky track conditions made for a tough betting race and there wasn’t much money placed on the winner. It stayed at its original odds as most of the money came for So Willie and Liapari, but it wasn’t an exciting betting affair.

Race 8: Bonny O’Reilly ($3.20), from Wild ‘n’ Famous and Dream Lane

Punters were confident throughout the week that Bonny O’Reilly would start at Rosehill instead of Doomben and that early money was taken. It opened at $4.20 and it never looked like being beaten. Guard Of Honour challenged it in the market, but it settled back and never got into the race. Wild ‘n’ Famous and Dream Lane were both specked at odds.

Race 9: Dagny ($4.20), from Labdien and Wahng Wah

Another well-backed runner saluted with the impressive Dagny clearing away for an easy win. It had shown good ability to date, but was looking to rebound after a poor run last start. Rebound it did and punters took the early $4.60 on offer.

Runner to follow from Rosehill: Bonny O’Reilly

As we previously mentioned, this talented Bjorn Baker-trained mare is going places and it should rise through the grades and pay nice prices along the way.

Bookmakers report – Doomben

Race 1: Gully Command ($3.60), from Blackjack Bella and Street Savvy

Scratchings took its toll on the market which left Blackjack Bella the $2.80 favourite, but it wasn’t able to reel in Gully Command which was $3.60 in the market after opening at $7, but deductions applied heavily with every runner.

Race 2: Pardoe ($7.50), from Skate To Paris and Wudang Blade

Despite winning form, Pardoe scored at nice odds for each way punters. It opened at $9 and was backed nicely throughout the early part of the day. Most of the money came for Dream Kisses and Cabin Fever which were unable to trouble the scorers.

Race 3: The Virginian ($8.50), from Highly Geared and Quelle Liaison

Despite being a popular runner, The Virginian drifted from its opening quote of $8. It hadn’t won in some time, but always showed plenty of class. The big push came for Colinelle which opened at $21 and started as the favourite, but that money was quickly spent on the home turn. $101 chance Quelle Liaison ran into third.

Race 4: Tactical Advantage ($4), from All Over Bosanova and Inspired Belle

Sydney form showed up in spades when Tactical Advantage burst through to win late in the race. It drifted out to $4.40 in the betting, but closed at $4 to return one for the punters. Big money came for Tiyatrolani, but it was unable to show its best.

Race 5: Bidii Babe ($8.50), from Untamed Diamond and Dee Nine Elle

The money for Untamed Diamond almost paid off, but it was Bidii Babe which sprinted best down the outside to return $8.50 after opening at $11. Untamed Diamond had been in winning form and was backed in from $7, but punters won’t feel too disappointed with the result.

Race 6: Kenedna ($3), from Oklahoma Girl and Perilous Love

The three-year-olds did battle and it was the Darren Weir-trained Kenedna that did best, much to punters liking. It opened at $4 and was heavily backed, but it did have to survive a protest and punters that backed Oklahoma Girl in from $11 to $8.50 should feel a touch unlucky. The Pinnacle was another well-backed runner, but after a good trip in transit it was unable to lengthen out.

Race 7: Sense Of Occasion ($9), from Star Exhibit and Rudy

Kris Lees got the big win for Newcastle and it stayed steady in the market after placing in the Doncaster and QEII earlier this season. The well-backed Star Exhibit closed at $7 after opening at $13, but came up just short. Rudy had support at $7 to place and ran on stoutly for third.

Race 8: Jungle Edge ($6.50), from High Midnight and Ulmann

Jungle Edge showed it’s a true wet tracker and punters caught on early. It opened at $9 which was crazy money given its form, but the market swayed towards Kiwi runner Splurge which was a big flop. There was an equal amount of money placed on Ulmann which rattled home for third with High Midnight adding some value at $21.

Horse to follow from Doomben: The Virginian

It will only continue to strengthen up after this performance, but we don’t think it will start at those odds again this winter.
