Best bets for Creswick Stakes – Saturday, 20 June 2020

King Of Hastings betting news
Star 3yo King Of Hastings will take on his own age in the AR Creswick Stakes at Flemington.

The feature race on Flemington’s nine-race program this Saturday is the Listed A.R. Creswick Stakes for the 3yo horses on the ‘straight six’ course. The last two runnings of this race saw subsequent Group 1 winners Nature Strip and Gytrash reign supreme, so punters will be keeping a close eye on the victor down the track. Front Page and Merited map to lead with Hawker Hurricane, Kalkarni Royale and I Am Eloquent all not far away. King Of Hastings is the $3 favourite with most online bookmakers and is certainly the class of the field.

Best Bet
King Of Hastings @ $3

We often try to bet around the favourite and go searching for value, but here it looks as though the market has it spot on. King Of Hastings is coming off a two-length victory in the Golden Topaz at Swan Hill against the older horses after running second to straight-track specialist Prezado a month ago. Craig Williams won’t be far away at all from barrier six, or so we hope. The gelding has an outstanding 1200m record (6:3-3-0), while he has won and placed on a soft track in his two starts on rain-affected going. He is a winner on the straight six also and Williams knows the horse well. All the arrows point to the Anthony Freedman galloper winning the feature sprint.

Next Best
Broadwayandfourth @ $7.50 Sportsbet

Despite being from different stables, the Freedmans might have the two best horses in the race. Our top pick is trained by Anthony, but another winning chance is his nephew Mitchell Freedman’s Broadwayandfourth. The Smart Missile filly is on the quick seven-day turnaround after a fifth placing at Moonee Valley on Saturday when she jumped favourite. She got back in the run and worked home well late, but the tight turning course didn’t suit her on face value. She should be suited by the big straight at Flemington and the amount of speed engaged. Ben Melham has ridden the filly in all three of her victories and will be hoping to make it a fourth. From barrier eight, we will see her parked towards the tail of the field and making her run late again. She has only had the one start over the Flemington 1200m and that was in last year’s Group 1 Coolmore Stud Stakes, where she finished eight lengths behind the likes of Exceedance, Bivouac and Libertini. Can test the favourite.

Best Value
Front Page @ $8.50

Greg Duryea’s promising filly makes the trek to the city for the first time at just her sixth start and is shooting for three wins on the bounce. Front Page’s two runs this campaign have seen her win by over nine lengths at Albury before a 1.25-length victory at Wangaratta. She is a speedy mare that pings out of the gates and will take a power of running down. She has won twice on soft going and is drawn well in barrier 10 for the straight course. Lewis German retains the ride after steering her to victory at Wangaratta, so his confidence levels will be high considering he knows how big her motor is. The $8.50 looks a good each-way bet for those wanting to play around the favourite.
