Bendigo racing tips & value bets – Wednesday, 2 September 2020

Hellova Street

Racing returns to ‘The Nursery of Champions’ on Wednesday for the first meeting of the spring on a Good 4. There is always potential that these meetings can give punters a look at horses to watch over the spring, and this card looks that way. With eight races set down for judgement, we’ll try and steer you into a few winners.

Free betting tips for Bendigo races

Race 1
Kazuhiko @ $7.50

The opening race on the card is a maiden for the three-year-olds that looks like a dartboard job, with several expensive yearlings going around. With $5.50 the field and plenty of unknowns about this lot, it’s a race for cautious betting. The $1.7m colt Kazuhiko (#7) went around as favourite at Morphettville in the Group 3 National Stakes and was well beaten by Extra Time, who was thoroughly impressive in the McNeil Stakes on Saturday. As stated, we are playing cautiously here, but that seems the best form to tie into the race. Ain’tnodeeldun (#1), Indictment (#5), Pal D’oro (#8) and Rousseau (#10) have all performed moderately in their careers so far but have genuine claims.

Race 2
Kentucky Tornado @ $2.90 – BEST BET

The second race at Bendigo sees our best bet come up in Kentucky Tornado (#5). The six-year-old mare was well supported at Moonee Valley last start on August 22 but finished some 20 lengths off the winner, mainly due to the fact it was a Heavy 10 and all winners came from the first three in the run. She was building nicely prior to that and has already won at this track, while the booking of gun hoop Craig Williams is another big tick. Prince Alby (#6) finished second in that race at The Valley and commands respect on that alone. Protection Money (#3) outstayed Light Pillar (#1) at Sandown three weeks ago, and they will renew hostilities here.

Race 3
Toyetic @ $5

It’s an open market for this BM64 over 1100m, with plenty of these looking towards bigger races later in the spring. Toyetic (#3) was thoroughly impressive in his first-up campaign and looks the one to beat. He was given a freshen up after his win at Sandown in early July on a Heavy 9 and will benefit from the break, while getting onto a good-rated track for the first time in his career is certainly no knock. Snapper (#5) was far from disgraced in the Group 1 Sistema at Ellerslie (NZ) in March when fifth of eight and beaten just under 4L. Tydeus (#6) and Norbu (#8) both won on debut and will look to make it two from two. Saltpeter (#1) resumes with Damien Oliver, who is unbeaten with this three-year-old gelding after two starts. This may prove a strong form race going forward.

Race 4
Born A Warrior @ $6

This is another race where some of these will be looking towards stronger events in the spring. Ocular (#7) opened favourite but seems to be one we can take on with a bit of confidence, as he was a touch disappointing last campaign. The Hawkes-trained galloper Born A Warrior (#6) was heavily backed as a short odds-on favourite at Bendigo when first up, and if he can regain his two-year-old campaign form, he will prove hard to hold out here. Namibia (#11) was impressive upon resumption when rounding up the leaders in the late stages at Geelong and will be fighting out the finish here. Fresh (#10) will look to bounce back from a disappointing performance in the Quezette Stakes when in the market.

Race 5
Bermadez @ $2.40

The opening leg of the Bendigo quaddie sees five last-start winners going around, with Tyche Goddess due to be scratched after racing at Benalla on Tuesday. Four of those winners were on debut, but arguably the most impressive was Bermadez (#2), who belted his rivals at Geelong three weeks back. After drawing the rails, he will likely lead this pack up with Damien Oliver on board and prove hard to hold out. Stradari (#3) beat Vainly last start on that same day at Geelong, which is solid form considering that horse came out and spanked his rivals last Thursday at Mornington.

Race 6
Bacchus @ $5.50

One of the toughest tipping races on the card is this BM64 over 1600m, which sees plenty of gallopers reaching peak fitness. The Chris Waller duo in Bacchus (#8) and Wairere Falls (#11) may jump first and second favourite after building nicely through their preparations. We are leaning towards Bacchus, as connections have seemingly been waiting for a firm track, although it is worth noting that Damien Oliver jumps off this gelding for the Danny O’Brien-trained Serengeti (#10). Category Five (#2), Frankly Harvey (#6) and Sublime Miss (#12) all go into the quaddie and will prove a potential knockout chance in this.

Race 7
Mozzie Monster @ $3.20

The penultimate race on the card looks a contest in two, with the John Sadler-trained Mozzie Monster (#11) and the Price stable’s Scientific (#13) well placed to fight out the finish between them. We slightly favour Mozzie Monster, who won on debut as an odds-on favourite on heavy going at Cranbourne a fortnight ago. If she can bring that form here, then second up on a firm track looks ideal for a galloper that may go places during the spring. Note that both of these gallopers have nominations for races at Geelong and Moonee Valley respectively this weekend. La Marita (#3) and Zoupino (#5) go into the quaddie as savers.

Race 8
Chaillot @ $4.50

We would suggest going a bit wider here in the last leg of the quaddie. The undefeated mare Chaillot (#11) showed plenty of promise during her two-year-old campaign, notably when defeating Super Seth in the Anzac Day Stakes in 2019. The obvious danger in this race is Impi (#4), who pushed Harbour Views to within a length first up last campaign and has been kept fresh for the spring. Shotmaker (#16) has resumed in fine fashion and can take it to these, whilst Red Heeler (#5) and Zousonic (#15) also go in.
